Go drive north and see the effects. They are far more pronounced in higher northern and southern latitudes. 

Climate and weather are very complex systems and the various positive and negative feedbacks may create non-obvious effects. 

As to the OP, we previously lived behind dykes but at least now we are about 500m AMSL.

Like I said, there is no evidence of Global Climate Change being an issue.  It's just bad computer models, and hysteria.  The only reason government is interested is all the money they will make on taxes, not that we would get anything in return for the payment.

Anecdotal, but I have friend who is a risk manager for a city in the Greater Vancouver region. The entire metropolitan area has been actively dealing with the ramifications of climate change and are making zoning decisions based on that - such as leaving certain coastal areas free of development. Believe me, they would love to continue to develop those areas as more housing or industry means more tax revenue.

Might just be that they are deceived by the likes of Al Gore.   They may truly believe disaster is on the way when it really isn't.

As far as I know, he has never referred to it as a disaster. It's not a disaster but it is a real risk. They are managing risk because that is their job. An invoking Al Gore is pretty silly - it's not like they watched An Inconvenient Truth and panicked.

It's just that Al and the IPCC have made predictions that have flopped.  It turns out these predictions have always flopped, and so far as the IPCC is concerned, they were caught fudging the numbers where the prior numbers were not of concern. 

There are some sinister people in history who have claimed that if you lie big enough and often enough, 'they will believe it.'

Big Al told us many years ago that New York City would be underwater by the year 2,000.   That would have been pretty disastrous.

Never heard that one before and cannot find any indication he made that specific claim. He did make some other claims (or rather relayed) about ice-cap melting that were not borne out.

that's what was to flood NYC.   Much of what he has said was supposed to happen that hasn't is not available on todays media.

It's on film in his movie, but I think he said it would happen by 2016 along with Florida, which neither happened.  The claims they make never happen.

Rush Limbaugh marked his calendar, and then brought up the prediction failure on his radio show.  Nothing happened to Florida, nor lower Manhattan.
