Senator Paul has his own agenda, of course. What he neglects to mention is that it is well known that even cloth masks help reduce spread FROM an infected individual TO others. We have been told by experts for 16 months that this is true, yet Senator Paul conveniently omits this information. Why? I can only guess, but we see again that Senator Paul has a personal vendetta against Dr. Fauci for unknown reasons.

Folks, it is clear that masks can help reduce spread of SARS-CoV-2 infection. Even cloth masks help reduce spread FROM an infected individual. It IS debatable how effective they are in protecting the wearer. This depends significantly on the mask, the fit, and the behavior of the person wearing the mask.

Please don't listen to Senator Paul (and his personal vendetta) and forget that the primary reason to wear a mask is to prevent spread FROM an infected individual to others. Also keep in mind, that virus shedding can occur in asymptomatic and pre-symptomatic individuals.

I believe Dr. Paul over Dr. Fauci any day (and on possibly any topic), but an n95 is also not a respirator.   It's better than nothing so far as viruses are concerned, but not much better.  Tee shirts and other home made masks are worthless except in a sand storm, and only to block some sand.

As I have said in other posts, an n95 mask has 300 nm pores, and a typical virus is just 24 nm.  To give you an idea of the sizes we are talking about, DNA is about 2 nm and the diameter of a hydrogen atom is about 0.1 nm.  An n95 is ideal for dealing in the micron realm, though, such as bacteria.

You can see, virology labs don't clown around with masks at all when they work with viruses. They bring their own clean air.

All true - the ordinary cloth mask filtration is totally insufficient to stop inhalation of airborne virus particles. It is arguable whether they provide much protection for the wearer.

That's why masks are much more effective at reducing the spread of virus FROM infected individuals. The respiratory droplets and aerosols can be mitigated to some extent by wearing even a cloth mask. Although they may not pose much protection for the wearer, others around the wearer can be at least partially protected from him/her.
