Most Christians truly desire to understand God’s plan for their lives. Yet there are many questions: how do I discover God’s plan? How can I be sure? Fortunately, the Bible provides many important principles regarding the will of God. God is not trying to hide His will for our lives; He wants His children to know His will and follow it.

First, the Bible is filled with clear statements regarding God’s plan that apply to all believers. For example, 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 teaches, “Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” These three activities—being joyful, praying, and giving thanks—are God’s will for all believers, regardless of other circumstances.

We can understand God’s will through His Word. God’s Word is perfect, and we can discover God’s plan for our lives through our study of it. Second Timothy 3:16-17 says, “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.”

Second, we can better understand God’s plan for our lives by closely following Him. Romans 12:1-2 promises, “I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God – this is your spiritual act of worship. Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is – his good, pleasing and perfect will.” When we dedicate our lives to God and turn away from the principles of this world, we prepare our hearts to hear from God (also see 1 Peter 4:2).

First Thessalonians 4:3-7 confirms the necessity of being a “living sacrifice” and gives more detail about God’s plan: “It is God’s will that you should be sanctified: that you should avoid sexual immorality; that each of you should learn to control his own body in a way that is holy and honorable, not in passionate lust like the heathen, who do not know God; and that in this matter no one should wrong his brother or take advantage of him. The Lord will punish men for all such sins, as we have already told you and warned you. For God did not call us to be impure, but to live a holy life.”

Third, we can discover God’s plan through prayer. Colossians 4:12 notes that a believer named Epaphras was “always wrestling in prayer for you, that you may stand firm in all the will of God, mature and fully assured.” The Colossian believers needed to know and do the will of God, and so Epaphras prayed for them. We can grow in our understanding of God’s will through prayer. We can also pray for God to reveal His plan to others.

Fourth, God sometimes reveals or confirms His plans for us through other means, including personal circumstances, relationships, or even dreams. However, these areas are often more subjective, and we must carefully evaluate such signs by what God has clearly said in Scripture.

We can rest assured of God’s promise: “Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you” (James 4:8). As we pray, study Scripture, and seek to live holily before the Lord, He will reveal His plan for us in His perfect time and in a way we can understand.

Josh has offered a definitive answer to the question you posed in this topic, my friend. If I have anything meaningful to offer, it's this: the experience of one who was convinced that he would fail... that he would blow it royally... who was going to anger the Lord in such a way that He would be abandon me in wrath, to His wrath!

Yes, left to our own devices the best we can possibly hope for is all of the above. The avenue to destruction is broad and generously accommodating, @grumix8, as the Lord Himself assures us in scripture. Ah, but we who are in Christ are called to the blessing, and so our lot is found securely (and completely) in His hand. His Spirit conforms us to the image of Jesus Christ from glory to glory, one step at a time, and nothing can snatch us away from Him.

The Lord knows how to deal with His sons and daughters. This encapsulates my experience over time as a bonehead in need of correction, discipline, and salve for these eyes. I learned, through a counselor approved by the Lord, that I was mortified of succeeding.

Eh? Yep, I was terrified of success. I'm not referring to the worldly conception of success nor the adoration of my peers but rather. of something well done. Why? Because success was a fluke I could not replicate consistently, being the most legendary failure of all failures in my myopic and wretched estimation. Seeing as how I was bound to fail I would screw everything up and find myself in the ditch once more, the only reliable place of habitation I had known for many years.

The Lord cured me of my resident blindness, opening my eyes to truth: I am not the guarantor of my success. He is. I don't justify myself, He justifies me. It's my place to be the clay in His hands --- the potter dictates to the clay, not the opposite --- and when  I discovered the truth of that endurance and patience which He cultivates in me through hardship and adversity (trials), I was astonished greatly. Yeah, I didn't have anything to do with that. It's His work in me!

The Lord chose us so I amended my self-centered thinking to better reflect reality: I'm weak but He is strong. So I turned to the scriptures where I learned,

And He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. (2 Corinthians 12:9 NKJV)

Josh is quite correct... we can move mountains. Let's wake up and smell the :coffee:

Speaking of which, time for another cup. ;)

lol! Thanks for the kind words but I was in haste between clients when I posted that op-reply and thought "There's so much more that could be said but this will do for now." :D

Where I was really coming from and how typically frame these sort of inquiries is through the frequent "onlyism" of 1 John 3:8's Jesus came to destroy the works of the devil. I have observed people sometimes (often?) insert an "only" in there but Jesus did NOT come only to destroy the works of the devil and there are several and severe problems with that onlyism. For one, it makes God's plan and/or purpose for creation dependent upon sin and sin's existence and by extension that makes God dependent on sin. That's an enormous contradiction theologically and logically; the Law Maker dependent upon lawlessness. The Law Giver dependent upon the existence of lawlessness for His Son to fulfill His purpose.

Scripture says Jesus was foreknown as the perfect sacrifice before the world was created. That means his entering human history was something decided upon before a single atom of earth was created, before a single human ever drew breath, and definitely before a single act of disobedience ever occurred. And yet (most of) Christianity holds God is not the Author or cause of sin. Logically, if Jesus was coming into creation where no sin existed he'd still be the foreknown sacrifice. This is what we find with the tree of life in Eden! This is also what we find with the river-straddling tree in the new city of peace! Why, how could Jesus be the perfect sacrifice apart from sin - a condition that must be possible lest God be dependent.*

I think the answer lies in Paul's comment "Flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God," and the immutable identity of Christ as the resurrection. Or perhaps the emphasis should be on that last word because Jesus is the life and the resurrection and if 1 Peter 1:20 is true then there has never been a time when he was no so!!! This becomes an ontological statement or condition, not a function of mere history or simple cause and effect as if Christ's existence, his purpose his nature was dependent upon a mistake occurring in creation. Sin is not the only reason he came; it's just one of the reasons. Without walking through al the many relevant scripture (ones I trust we all know) we understand the resurrection is THE thing that makes us Christians. If there is no resurrection were are humanity's biggest fools and to be pitied above all others. Not withstanding Enoch and Elijah, I believe the plan, the normal sop for humans has always been life, death, and resurrection but more importantly a redemptive resurrection in which grace was applied. That things like mercy and forgiveness were added makes this all the more amazing; it was a redemption that pre-emptively addressed all possible obstacles.

So our purpose is to become different than we are.

Our purpose is not merely to becomes something other than sinful; it is to become fully human as the Son of Man is fully human. It is to be raised incorruptible and immortal. Not even the angels can lay claim to that. Something new and different is created with Adam and Eve and completed in Christ. The first Adam was a living being; the last Adam a life-giving spirit.

Ephesians 2:10
"For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them."

Ephesians 4:11-13
".....for the equipping of the saints for the work of service, to the building up of the body of Christ;  until we all attain to the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a mature man, to the measure of the stature which belongs to the fullness of Christ."

1 John 3:2-3
"Beloved, now we are children of God, and it has not appeared as yet what we will be. We know that when He appears, we will be like Him, because we will see Him just as He is....."

This is the plan of God. :cool::cool::cool::cool::cool::cool::cool: (how amazing cool is that reality is far beyond words and emoticons)

What He does with us individually while we're here on earth, well, that's gonna take another post ;). Or three. :whistling:

* It does not matter upon what God is dependent. He is the self-sufficient God who created ALL that has been made so and dependency would immediately disqualify Him as God. He might be a god; but he could not be an omni-attributed God. That He would be dependent upon the very antithesis of Himself is all the more untenable. There is no dialectic with God; God created the dialectic. The Creator is not subject to that which He created.

Time permitting, perhaps you will get around to sharing the remaining 75%? I hope you do!

It was a fine answer for being rushed, brother. You touched upon some essentials in an exemplary manner and have expanded upon your initial contribution as quoted above. I'm by no means a math geek so if I were to count your first response as 5% and the above post as 20% of the forthcoming answer, then 75% remains.

It resonates. :)

The plan of G-d is for man to be happy and love simple as that but Adam's fall brought calamity and sin our lives and we like to gamble, to cheat, and murder. As humans go to one era to another era we see we have more technology gives us more way to seal, criminalize and power to the rich who so oppress us all the time our future is one that goes bad. But people have changed in a way where the lady provides for the family and the husband stays at home suchs way back in the old days will not be approved but men lets women do work and do roles that men do G-d has establish in the Torah but even in Israel it is changing too.

All is going bad but G-d has a plan for the people and women to relieve of their pain and confusion save men to be good men for women all of them to pass their tests make women be good to men so men can find G-d vice-versa. But for men they must love and so women but because People forget what is the law due to time being something we cannot control we forget the laws and lessons G-d gave to his people. What serveth the law sermon, What is faith hebrews chapter 11 sermon, and other sermon state we have relation with God and it first love god with all your heart and second love thy neighbor do both of this and you have completed the law. Very simple for those who know the law and good in heart but the rest of us humans who do not know this and are simple people with basic needs cannot simply do this.

The plan for us is that that we love G-d with all our hearts and tell the gospel the message who he is and he's existence to others. The great promblem people forget it all the media has dumb us down and keeps us on the path of sin what is the plan of God We wait for him to do things and pray for guidance he will answer and no matter how bad things are going to be in life we love him and always be thankful. That's the plan simple as that G-d delivers and every day we have sun and sky and air and water we use them to the extreme and do good with it. Bless your enemies be happy in troubles and do good will show your relation with G-d and when he see all of you works he will blessed you and help you solve your promblems.

God has good plans for us in the middle of our troubles and he has secured us by faith in his Cross under his blood to be found in his righteousness.

But it is also possible to sin in Heaven...

Does God has a plan for us to secure our remaining in Heaven?

To each person Jesus has His plan:

Psa 25:14 -> "The secret of the LORD is with them that fear him; and he will shew them his covenant.".

For we are all different and many have stated that.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
