Luther was just a man, a human like the rest of us, who struggled every single day of his life.  An inspired man he certainly was, but that was it, we cannot base our faith in God and his Son Jesus, on humans who err.

Nobody here, especially myself, is making Luther out to be more than a man. I am not even a Lutheran...nor even close. My goal when posting this topic was merely to portray historical Catholicism in light of the reformation...shedding light on the evils of popery, if you will...not to product doctrine. Perhaps my initial thread above was not worded well and for that I apoligise if I misled anyone as to my intentions.

In my opinion Martin Luther is just a cog in the progress of God's eternal economy, to produce the bride (Which is the aggregate church). The church is not Martin Luther and Martin Luther is not the founder of the church.

There is no doubt that Luther was not insane...the man was highly educated, intelligent, and full of clarity in his writings. Does he admit that many of his writings are confused and contradictory? Yes. Verily he confesses his ever-changing beliefs and growth processes. The Catholic Church has a rule of thumb: If you can't beat the belief...beat the person. That is what they have done with people like Jack Chick, Charles Chinquay, Clark Butterfield, Alberto Rivera, Dave Hunt, Sidney Hunter, among others. Go start up a Protestant church in south america and see what happens. Brother Lius, in Toronto, has a story for any of you willing to listen. And is he lying? The Spirit flows from this man like butter.

Martin Luther, by no far stretch of the imagination, was perfect in his ways or theology...but, by goodness, he sure took strides in the right direction. And God blessed his path...which led right out of Rome.

Remember...that ML, at first, trusted the Pope to support him fully...even when he posted the Thesis on the door of the university. The Catholic Church is the one who turned on him first...truth be told.
