(Church History in Plain Language, Bruce Shelley, 4th Ed). The truth is services were suppose to be gatherings. Nonbelievers were not allowed to be at the Love Feasts (Communion, Lord’s Supper, Eucharist) qhich was separate from other meetings, and the service/gathering was primarily for believers to be strengthened, not an evangelistic setting; they did that by going out to world and preaching, “Go forth and make disciples, baptizing them in Name of Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.” (Matthew 28:19). Now in Modern Churches they try to reach unbelievers in the service and preach milk rather than meat (Hebrews 5:12). Their goal to entertain, and draw in new coverts to fill their coffers (tithes). Ugh.

The centralized gathering of the congregations rather than the diversity of the home churches of the first century. The emphasis on the meeting hall / building and even the ornateness of the older protestant denominations. The pomp and circumstance woven into every service. The sit down and shut up requirement of the laity. Rare question and answer sessions. That there is a division between clergy and laity when all believers are priests of God (Revelation 1:6 / Revelation 5:10 / 1 Peter 2:3-9). The standard traditions of man being placed on par with holy writ. The bringing of old testament law into new testament grace (Hebrews 9:16-17 establishes that all taught before Christ died on the cross is OLD covenant). The addition of works to faith in Christ (baptism, speaking in tongues, the catechism, the rosary, prayer to saints, being a member of the local church) ... just for starters

We are as salt that lost its savor and is trampled underfoot by humanity. Because in part, we cathedralized into salt shaker buildings and told the rest of the world to come to the salt shaker rather than sprinkling the true salt on purifying humanity.
