What examples from Scripture do we have of the lies Satan tells? I don't mean the deceptions; I mean the actual lie from his mouth e.g.,

"...you will be as gods knowing good and evil." Gen 3:5

Oh. That makes sense. It seems the lie would be about God's motivation for the prohibition. Maybe?

satan is quite clever, he can speak a truth and lie at the same time, like when he said you will not die from eating the forbidden fruit.

Yes they could have lived for ever in fleshly bodies but no way will God allow such a thing

Hi Diaste,

Good to see this interesting thread from you. You want specific examples of Satan the deceiver, false accuser of the brethren, father of lies etc. in action, not just general references.

I suggest God knew Satan was lying about Job and allowed him to be tested to prove this.

Job 1:9-11  So Satan answered the LORD and said, "Does Job fear God for nothing?  (10)  Have You not made a hedge around him, around his household, and around all that he has on every side? You have blessed the work of his hands, and his possessions have increased in the land.  (11)  But now, stretch out Your hand and touch all that he has, and he will surely curse You to Your face!"

Also it transpires that Satan was the author of Peter's utterance in this example:

Mat 16:22-23  Then Peter took Him aside and began to rebuke Him, saying, "Far be it from You, Lord; this shall not happen to You!"  (23)  But He turned and said to Peter, "Get behind Me, Satan! You are an offense to Me, for you are not mindful of the things of God, but the things of men."

Good morning,

Yes. It came up in another conversation with a self described agnostic. She made a good point about finding no examples of a lie from the mouth of Satan. I pointed out the Gen 3 conversation; '...you shall not surely die...' and '...be as gods...'

They did die and I take that to mean spiritually, maybe physically too, and they did become like them 'knowing good and evil' but not 'as gods'. The conversation turned from that to other topics.

Thanks for the examples above. What I'm seeing overall appears to be Satan challenging God's authority. Satan is telling Eve, "God said that? Well He's wrong and He shouldn't keep it from you." or maybe, "Those are aren't the real reasons, God lied to you, I'm telling the truth."

It looks like the truth was used sway, deceive. Not a blatant lie, a subtle one, not easy to see, hidden within the truth. No wonder the agnostic can't see it.

I thought perhaps Isaiah 14:13-14 was also a huge lie, several of them, and I brought that up. Ignored.

Anything else you can think of?

Satan's Lying Influence Is Often Behind The Scenes & By Faith In God and His Word We Shield Ourselves From It.

Eph 6:11-12  Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.  (12)  For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.

Eph 6:16  above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one.

Act 5:3  But Peter said, "Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and keep back part of the price of the land for yourself?

2Th 2:9-12  The coming of the lawless one is according to the working of Satan, with all power, signs, and lying wonders,  (10)  and with all unrighteous deception among those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved.  (11)  And for this reason God will send them strong delusion, that they should believe the lie,  (12)  that they all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

2Co 11:13-15  For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into apostles of Christ.  (14)  And no wonder! For Satan himself transforms himself into an angel of light.  (15)  Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also transform themselves into ministers of righteousness, whose end will be according to their works.

Rev 12:9-10  So the great dragon was cast out, that serpent of old, called the Devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was cast to the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.  (10)  Then I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, "Now salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of His Christ have come, for the accuser of our brethren, who accused them before our God day and night, has been cast down.

Rev 20:2-3  He laid hold of the dragon, that serpent of old, who is the Devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years;  (3)  and he cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal on him, so that he should deceive the nations no more till the thousand years were finished. But after these things he must be released for a little while.

Rev 20:7-10  Now when the thousand years have expired, Satan will be released from his prison  (8)  and will go out to deceive the nations which are in the four corners of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together to battle, whose number is as the sand of the sea.  (9)  They went up on the breadth of the earth and surrounded the camp of the saints and the beloved city. And fire came down from God out of heaven and devoured them.  (10)  The devil, who deceived them, was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone where the beast and the false prophet are. And they will be tormented day and night forever and ever.

Quote from the Believer's Bible Commentary on Zechariah 3:1-10
D. Joshua the High Priest (Chap. 3)
Meaning: The priesthood, representative of the nation, cleansed and restored.
3:1-3 Joshua the high priest, clothed in filthy garments, pictures the priesthood as representative of Israel. Satan (Heb. for adversary) accuses Israel of being unfit to carry out its priestly function. God answers Satan that He has plucked the nation as a brand . . . from the fire, i.e., the captivity.

This isn't so much for me as it is looking for evidence to fulfill a request.

The person in question understand the bible says Satan lies and deceives and is the father of lies. What they are saying is no where in scripture does it show where Satan told a lie. I'm convinced, "You shall not surely die" is a blatant lie. Isaiah 14:13-14 are more lies. I get this is spiritually discerned and I'll probably get no where. Just thought I'd see what others say.

Like this, "the devil who deceived them." What lie was used and is there biblical support for a specific lie, or lies, that deceived them? And it'll have to be simple enough for a young child to understand. :)

Satan doesn't get quoted much in the Bible so its difficult to find what you are asking for.

The book of Job came to mind and someone has already cited a passage from it.

Perhaps the best exaple is the one from Genesis when he tells eve they will not die and be like gods.

Yes, it is implicit in Scripture that Satan spoke through the serpent to deceive Eve by contradicting God's warning that the penalty for eating the forbidden fruit was death.

Also, maybe it's pedantic to say Lucifer didn't become Satan until he actively opposed God, but certainly such self- aggrandisement here does amount to a lie because of its false claims.

Isa 14:12-14  "How you are fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! How you are cut down to the ground, You who weakened the nations!  (13)  For you have said in your heart: 'I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God; I will also sit on the mount of the congregation On the farthest sides of the north;  (14)  I will ascend above the heights of the clouds, I will be like the Most High.'

I have to wonder what case your agnostic contact will make of the direct and indirect Scriptural references to Satan's lying.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
