False teachers is an example of an enemy.

The Bible teaches us about false teachers.

Why is it that if I speak on false teachers it is considered not edifying and the post is shut down with zero arguments happening?

I didn't see the posts ... however, threads would get shut down if you singled out a person!  Remember that most debates that often become unedifying are when hominem attacks begin.  One Christian message boards it's usually -- when someone calls another person a "false teacher" when its a difference of an opinion that has NOTHING to do with a salvational issue.

Case in point ... when do you believe the rapture of the church will take place?  Different viewpoints on an issue that is not clear cut in Scripture often lead to these types of ad-hominem attacks.

Jesus is not God ... this is clearly "false teaching" and against our Statement of Faith and we deal with those issues immediately so they don't need to be dealt with on the main forums, but rather on another section of the ministry.

Hope this clarifies.  However, I've not been on much these days.

Be blessed,

George

Hi George,

thank you for responding.

The post is titled  “1 Timothy 6:4, and there were no attacks.

I don’t want to ever attack anyone. I asked some moderators if it was possible to check IP addresses to make sure there are not people here posting under the same account.

I was told I needed to give the names of who I suspected because it has been an issue in the past.

I felt that would make me a false accuser if I shad the wrong people so I did nothing.

An example of how I don’t want to attack people. I do want to protect them though.

I unlocked the thread.  I wasn't around when it was locked and why it was locked.

I already agreed with Alive that it would be locked to further comments. I’m fine with that. Don’t want to overstep.

Do you want it unlocked?  I can lock it just as easily.  Honestly, I think Alive was simply trying to get ahead of a potential issue.   It's better to keep the cohesion of the family if you deal with issues at a foothold level than at a stronghold level.  Alive may be dealing with other issues that you are unaware of that is connected to this.  Moderating often means dealing with multiple issues at the same time that others may not be aware of.  I didn't talk to him about this specifically.  :)

I have been here for quite some time and more than two years as an Admin. Lately, there has been much more of all kinds of finger pointing at members as being false teachers and I can't just now think of a single time when it was warranted. Other than as it relates to a some of Helen White stuff.

Frankly--I have grown over-tired of it. It always leads to strife and harm to the visible members and only our Lord knows the harm inflicted on the silent lurkers.

Starting a thread on 'false teachers' in general without specific scriptural evidence to a specific 'false teaching' we can all or nearly all agree on--serves to raise that spectre once again in the hearts and minds of some members who already 'think' someone is a  false teacher. This can never be edifying.

The enemy is wily and uses all manner of innocent looking things to cause harm and disillusionment...THAT is where I saw that thread going. Encouraging some members to speak ill of brethren and thereby sinning.

Again, perhaps I over-reacted, but this is my rational.

If there is a specific 'false doctrine' to be discussed than let's do so. With scripture and an acute awareness that what one thinks is false may very well not be at all, but rather what that person currently believes.

There are indeed obvious (to most with any knowledge at all) false teaching that near all of us can agree on....we all know it exists.

We all know because we read the bible.

We have a choice--to build up or to tear down.

In my estimation, to come to a discussion forum such as this with a goal to 'save people from false teachers' is problematic in itself.

A mission? A crusade?

Best left outside.

IMO

P.S.--I take this responsibility seriously before our common Lord, Savior and Almighty God.

P.S.S.

I will unhide that OP and see what happens.

This is where I attempted to explain my mind on this….I also see it as an object lesson for all as well as an opportunity for some heart searching. A thing we all need. Myself, more than many. We are all in the same Salvation boat sailing on a perilous sea.

What happened was the post was removed from view entirely.

My issue was my message could not be seen.

I just wanted it viewable. I don’t mind that it is closed to further comments to prevent arguments.
