It's hard for me to understand why Messianic Jews are in the minority. Could those who have some knowledge of this subject help me out with a little info???

Why do you think it is that most Jews still do not believe in Jesus as Savior and Lord?

What do they envision the Messiah to be?

When do they think He is coming?

Shalom,

Fiosh

Hey, Fiosh!

I guess I can start you off with a simple way to see it.

Click on this link

This is what it will show you:

TRADITION

Words by Steffi Geiser Rubin

Music Arranged by Stuart Dauermann

This is a Jews for Jesus version of a song from

'Fiddler On The Roof." Listen to, "Tradition," and learn

the struggles of those Jews who profess faith in Christ.

In it, a young Jewish Christian relates to family members

who react to his faith.

(The link has the lyrics, BTW.)

But it's a simplistic, "cute" way of looking at the more serious issue.

Probably for the same reason most gentiles don't; It would mean repentance.

They are waiting for a sign.

What do they envision the Messiah to be?

Most verses that speak of the Messiah describe Him as ruling the Earth and the Torah going forth from Zion. He is expected to usher in world-wide peace and an Edenic state to the land.

When do they think He is coming?

Depends on which group you ask.

Just like christians....eh?

I will develop my answer for you later this afternoon after I get off work, Fiosh. Suffice to say for now, that it is not for the same reasons that they rejected Him 2000 years ago. A lot has happened since then, and Jewish rejection of Jesus has taken on a completely different rationale. The good news is that more Jews are coming to know the Lord now, than at any other time in history. I don't think it is any coincidence that we can see the Modern Messianic movement begining in the 19th century along with beginnings of modern Zionism in the 19th century as well. I believe that the increase of Jewish people coming to faith in Messiah, and the birth of Zionism and subsequent rebirth of Israel at the same time, is not coincidental, but a move of God.

All I know is...and I don't know everything that they are waiting for a king that will deliver them...Not understanding, of course, what "king" really means or "deliverance" since they are thinking of these things in worldy terms... I imagine.

But in all fairness...I ordered a movie (not yet released) called "The Judas Project" in which Jesus and His ministry is brought to us in modern terms..."What if Jesus came today? What if He didn't come 2000 years ago? Would we believe He is who He says He is?" reads the description...

I bought it hoping to understand the Jews and learn to stop criticising them...Hopefully, this movie will not let me down...

In the meantime, I have my nose stuck in the Bible, reading page by page from the book of Genesis...which helps IMMENSLY. :emot-questioned:

If you'd really like to understand this subject better I highly recommend "Real Messiah: A Jewish Response to Missionaries" by Aryeh Kaplan.

There are many varied opinions about the Messiah, everything from being a political leader to being a metaphor for a golden age of peace, so it is difficult to really pin it down.

A large part of what it boils down to, though, is that they were so concerned with the letter of the Law they missed the goal of the Law when He walked amongst them. That, coupled with persecution at the hands of so-called Christians for years has sort of hardened their hearts, many of them just don't wanna hear it, not right now anyway. :emot-questioned:

The truth is that the Bible teaches that most will not believe.

Enter by the narrow gate; for the gate is wide, and the way is broad that leads to destruction, and many are those who enter by it. For the gate is small, and the way is narrow that leads to life, and few are those who find it.

Matthew 7:13-14 NASB

It is a spiritual issue that is common to all people.

Greetings,

KatyAnn has given the best response thus far. Messianic Jews will remain in a minority until:

Deut 4:26-31 I call heaven and earth to witness against you this day, that ye shall soon utterly perish from off the land whereunto ye go over Jordan to possess it; ye shall not prolong your days upon it, but shall utterly be destroyed. 27 And the LORD shall scatter you among the nations, and ye shall be left few in number among the heathen, whither the LORD shall lead you. 28 And there ye shall serve gods, the work of men's hands, wood and stone, which neither see, nor hear, nor eat, nor smell. 29 But if from thence thou shalt seek the LORD thy God, thou shalt find him, if thou seek him with all thy heart and with all thy soul. 30 When thou art in tribulation, and all these things are come upon thee, even in the latter days, if thou turn to the LORD thy God, and shalt be obedient unto his voice; 31 (For the LORD thy God is a merciful God;) he will not forsake thee, neither destroy thee, nor forget the covenant of thy fathers which he sware unto them.

Blessings,

Dad Ernie

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
