If so, what exactly is it that we are to follow?

Is foot-washing a must?

Should we all be suffering on a daily basis?

Should we strive to offend the world with our Biblical teachings as Christ did?

Should we seek out Jews to wrestle the Scriptures with in the streets?

What exactly is expected of a true follower of Christ?

The expression Christian was originally a derogatory name the meant "little Christs".  A Christian is a person who is indwell by His Spirit, the Holy Spirit.  As such we should be loving the unlovable and forgiving the unforgivable just has Christ has loved and forgiven us.  We are to walk in the Spirit.

Acts 11:26 And when he had found him, he brought him to Antioch. So it was that for a whole year

they assembled with the church and taught a great many people.

And the disciples were first called Christians in Antioch.

Christians are believers who assemble by faith, abiding under the leading of the Holy Spirit.

This is clear from the testimony of what was taking place at Antioch. This is receiving the promise,

and accessing eternal life.

Ephesians 4:

3 Endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.

4 There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling;

5 One Lord, one faith, one baptism,

6 One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.

7 But unto every one of us is given grace according to the measure of the gift of Christ.

What was the teaching of the Lord?

John 13:15 For I have given you an example, that you should do as I have done to you.

This is not a teaching on hygiene, His words are Spirit and Truth. Foot washing represents

our willingness to forgive one another.

@Willa What may have started as a dismissive term has become a glorious term showing a beloved body of truth for service and suffering, with sure promise for eternity! :)

Acts 11:26 (NAS20S) and when he had found him, he brought him to Antioch. And for an entire year they met with the church and taught considerable numbers of people; and the disciples were first called Christians in Antioch.

A pivotal verse there for a thread of this title......... :)

Excellent verse to quote @Alive

As many have observed and commented on in the past, Scripture doesn't say by whom the disciples were first called Christians at Antioch, nor is there any suggestion it was as a term of derision. Rather there is the normal extension of vocabulary as demonstrated below.

Strong G5548
χρίω
chriō
khree'-o
Probably akin to G5530 through the idea of contact; to smear or rub with oil, that is, (by implication) to consecrate to an office or religious service: - anoint.
Total KJV occurrences: 5

Strong G5547
Χριστός
Christos
khris-tos'
From G5548; anointed, that is, the Messiah, an epithet of Jesus: - Christ.
Total KJV occurrences: 569

Strong G5546
Χριστιανός
Christianos
khris-tee-an-os'
From G5547; a Christian, that is, follower of Christ: - Christian.
Total KJV occurrences: 3

Of course, as most are aware, words and terms can be used reproachfully, and Peter addresses the issue here.

1Pe 4:14-16  If you are reproached for the name of Christ, blessed are you, for the Spirit of glory and of God rests upon you. On their part He is blasphemed, but on your part He is glorified.  (15)  But let none of you suffer as a murderer, a thief, an evildoer, or as a busybody in other people's matters.  (16)  Yet if anyone suffers as a Christian, let him not be ashamed, but let him glorify God in this matter.
