Are you a veteran of your countries Army, Navy, Coast Guard, Marines or Reserves? I have a purpose in mind asking that question, that I do not want to divulge yet. .

Dennis…I missed the draft by mere days and never served. The Lord had another idea for me…the ministry.

I signed up for the military and passed all the tests. The next step was to catch a plane to boot camp. Right after I signed up a whole bunch of bad things happened. House burned down, dad left mom...just a bunch of bad stuff.  I was more needed where I was. No wars were being waged at the time. A military lawyer agreed and I was off to be a support at home. As things turned out I never went in.

I don't believe it was God's intended direction for me.

I served in the Marine Corp from 1967 to 1969. I was stationed in Vietnam for a little over a year as a mortarman. Well, I guess you know about how old I am now.

Good evening Sower. I was with the 3rd Marine Division, 1st Battalion, 4th Marine Regiment, also at I Corp. Our base camp was in Quang-Tri, though we didn't spend much time there. Semper Fi Brother.

Hi; I'm not a US citizen (Canadian actually) but I visited USAF Lakenheath years ago; and remember the SR71s stationed (either) there or Mildenhall...........

No I wasn't in the military. (Up here the politicians don't seem interested in paying for a significant military...)

One of my good friends in Viet Nam was a Canadian, serving in my outfit. He was a bush pilot back home, and loved to fly.
I learned in Canada back then many got around flying small fights from lake to lake, and Canada has a lot of lakes.
He got me so interested I took flying lessons upon my return, and got my solo licenses in a Cessna 150.

In WW2 a lot of pilots learned to fly in Canada because of the Commonwealth Air Training program.

Canada is so big and so cold that flying to highly cold and highly isolated places needs a lot of skill and experience.....

There is a sense in which whatever is the military policy of Canadian politicians, some of the basic flying challenges in inhospitable environments are going to remain the same........
