Just surfed by CNN and came across a blurb about the new appointee to supreme court Miers.

President Bush suggested Wednesday that Harriet Miers' evangelical Christian beliefs were part of the reason he nominated her to the Supreme Court, but a White House spokesman said her religion played no role in her selection. "Harriet Miers is a person of faith," Scott McClellan told reporters. "She recognizes, however, that a person's religion or personal views have no role when it comes to making decisions as a judge."

How can an evangelical Christian recognize that your religion has no role when it comes to making decisions.

When you get saved aren't you supposed to be a "new creation"?

Aren't you supposed to become more like Christ?

If all the above is true, how can her relationship with God NOT affect her decision making.

I know it affects my day to day decisions and when I don't allow that, that is when I really make mistakes.

And this "person of faith" stuff....what is that?

How about Woman of God?

Believer in Christ

Christian

When they all start quoting that person of faith stuff it just makes me think of a bunch of people getting together and agreeing to "pretend" that they actually believe what they believe and that they will let each other believe what they want and not bother each other with all their different beliefs.

And we've been fighting wars over THAT? (pretending)

I now know what having the "Mind of Christ" is and I am certain being a "person of faith" has nothing to do with it.

That has been President's view all along. Be a Christian, just don't act, think, or talk like one, we don't want to offend anybody. :emot-lwt:

While we do not know someone's heart one can generally be found out by the fruit one bears.

We should all respect the authority of President Bush and pray for him and all our leaders but do not be decieved into thinking that there is any room for compromise and double speak when you decide to actually take up the cross.

Whatever President Bush's beliefs are, I do know who actully runs things and have complete faith in Him.

I totally agree that as Christians whether we are a judge or whatever should always keep God in everything and all decisions we make.

You need to compare apples to apples. We're not talking about her ability to decide on things based either on wordly or Christian views, we're talking about her ability to judge cases based upon the law of the land. Its perfectly within someone's ability to walk with Christ.

Her beliefs will shape how those laws are interpreted in many cases.

I'm saying that even how you read and understand things are affected by your belief in Jesus.

Also, not all judicial decisions are an easy black and white.

If they were anyone could be a judge.

Sister, you are right. Doesn't seem they want to talk about "religion" and keep God in a jar so he doesn't offend any non-Christian? This is the strategy the Republicans think will work to keep the Christan vote. How cheap and sad.

President Bush claims to know the Lord. He gives testimony of recieve Christ as Saviour and being born again. Based on that I call him my brother. I may not agree with all his decisions, but there are many here that I call brother and with whom I disagree.

I do not know where Harriet Mier's stands in relation to Christ, I have not yet heard her testimony. I do know that every judge must judge based upon the law, not upon her own opinions. If she does know the Lord, it will influence the way she sees the Law, but she is judging things according to the Constitution.

That being said, let's not turn this into a bash Bush thread. If you disagree with a particular decision he has made, debate the merits or failings of that decision.

Personal beliefs are not suppose to affect her judicial judgements. I know they might to a degree, but the degree we simply don't know. She might not even let them interfere.

Being a judge requires more than simply making decisions, so not everyone could do it.

I understand your POV, but it is possible to sit on the bench and not let personal feelings influence you. In fact, its expected and if judges are suspected of letting religious or personal beliefs creeping into their work, they can face serious repercussions.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
