As. Roman Catholic that’s what we do. Because it is all about legalism and punishment. And not only in the RCC but many protestants run their household that way. It makes the children feel always judged by outward appearances, observed and judged in everything they do. And because God is used as the hammer over their head, they see Him that way too and can't wait to escape the tyranny. They instinctively know what the church does not, that they are helpless to live up to the demands of holiness, but as God has become the enemy to them they avoid the One who stood and died in their place. And the RCC does not really teach that Jesus did that. We should teach by example the love and wisdom of God. But first we have to know those things ourselves. Find a place where they feel alive and accepted, and breathing room to be themselves. Unfortunately and a sad state of affairs it is, that is often with those things and people who have always been forbidden.
