Many of us have stories about how we came to Christ, or rather, how Christ came to us. It wasn't as if when we were all old enough to think about these kinds of things, we all just up and decided to follow Jesus. In fact in many minds He is more like Casper the Friendly Ghost, or a figment of someone's imagination.

But at some point we got that " Tap On The Back" and maybe it wasn't necessarily happening like, " Hey It's Me, Jesus, I just wanted to stop by for a little chat." Yet at some point we thought about God and went even further.

How would you describe your experience?

Not being old enough to think about these things sums me up pretty well. I was watching the Gospel Bill show as a kid. Didn't really grasp it all at the time but accepting Jesus made sense. Over time my understanding and appreciation grew but IMO you never really stop learning.

Thanks for sharing this,

Did you have Christian parents at the time?

Yes and no. My parents were Christian in a cultural sense, but this is purely my opinion. It's possible there was some real devotion but they fell off hard into drugs and alcohol and didn't really seem to practice. My mother showed some concern for matters of faith before she died.

In practice my grandparents were my parents, and they typically seemed to take things more seriously.

Not as a tap on the shoulder, that is for sure. It was more like a royal fanny kicking experience; but it got my attention and turned me about, how cool  that is. It has led to one adventure after another for some 40 years. Amazing that is the word I  find to describe the experience.

Sometimes I wonder why God doesn't go this route more often.

Hmm, maybe not enough  individuals pray diligently for their own ( loved ones and friends) to be turned about for   as long a period of time as is made available to be in prayer. My own forceful turning about was as result of God answering prayer of those that had prayed for me not for hours but decades and also having shared  by reading the Bible to me as a young child. While "we" may not live long enough to  know the result, God is faithful to answer prayer.

God got my attention during a severe thunder storm.  The sky was ablaze with lightning strikes.  Even the street lights were out.  Strong winds were bending giant maple and sycamore trees and leaves swirled 20 feet into the air.  "I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder, Thy power throughout the universe displayed" still brings tears to my eyes causing me to remember that night.  As the street lights flickered back on I had asked God, if there is a God, to make the lights go out again so I could again see His power and majesty in His creation, and instantly they were out.  Being a hard headed skeptic, this had to occur nearly 20 more times before I conceded that this was beyond the laws of probability and there was indeed a God Who's aware of me, Who heard and answered my prayer.  I was around 13 years old at the time.
