A post by Why So Blind kinda got me thinking a bit about childhood memories... and I think that it'd be great to start a thread where we can share some of our memories of life growing up. They can be good times, sad times, fun stuff, and just odd memories of our early years.

Things I remember immediately when thinking about my childhood include being hit in the face by a shovel (shovel fights with my brother!) and the four or five occasions where I ran into solid objects and required stitches to put things back together. Beyond these things, there is little I recall of my childhood. Maybe one too many hits in the head while still developing has something to do with that...

I do remember things like learning to tie my shoes when I was in grade one, and reading "Clifferd the Big Red Dog" and watching Ducktales on T.V. I remember swimming lessons at the Ontario Police College near Aylmer, Ontario, when my dad was a police instructor there, and swinging on the rope in our hayloft at home back in Timmins. I also remember learning to shot a .22 with my grandpa, and also learning to play Crib, and at least one trip (at the age of 4) out to the beaver dam in the woods behind our house. I also remember (and how can I forget this one!), the time me and my older brother and a cousin went 'cow surfing.' We'd grab the tale of one of the bulls and hang on as it ran through the feild. Wonder that we are all alive--and funny how at 4 years old you do such a thing without fear!! I also think it explains why at that time we started to slowly get ride of all our cows....

I think all of these are memories of events from around 6 years old, and younger. It is interesting that these are the things that stand out, and that serve as a bit of a foundation for oh so many other memories, things that I look back on with fondness (and more then a bit of laughing!)... it also reminds me that I have had an adverturous life (but don't envy me for it please!)

Anyways, I look forward to reading some of your memories of childhood...

I remember cooking, cleaning, doing laundry and ironing for a family of seven since I was eight. I remember being beaten or whipped (no exaggeration) for missing the corners of tables when wiping them (or for any other unpredictable error). I remember being screamed at and told I was hated and unloved. I remember my oldest brother trying to kill me. I remember working two jobs from seventh grade through my senior year of high school and giving the money to my parents, while my brothers got to play sports and have friends. I remember my older brothers leading the pack in picking on me at school, even shoving me down a long flight of stairs. I remember wearing thread-bare hand-me-downs and shoes two sizes too small all the time. I remember waking up on Christmas morning and getting a broom and dustpan because that's what the house needed, while my brothers and sisters got a few toys and clothes. (Hey, I got underwear though!)

So, out of all of this, what do I remember most about my childhood? Honestly, what I remember the most is God being right there with me, talking to me and protecting me from any physical/emotional trauma for as long as I can remember. He was right there with me through it all, shielding me, and I remember thinking that I hope my family gets better soon because they weren't happy like I was. I felt sorry for them because I knew they were the ones with the problems.

He never once left me alone. I remember laughing with Him and even playing with Him. I remember being happy and content!

We have a lot in common Keith.

My greatest childhood memories are of my Heavenly Father as well. I first met him when I was 9. I got caught in a strong river current and YEP!! Nearly drowned. I can still feel the serenity and indescribable peace I felt. The warmth of someone smiling at me and loving me without any words being spoken. After my rescue, I was totally transformed into another dimension for many weeks afterwards.

My second meeting with the Lord was in the early afternoon. My Dad was cursing at my Mum. I could hear her being smashed against the kitchen cupboards. I expected the blood on the walls, the holes in the cupboards and Mum to disappear into the bathroom for several hours. It was my job to tidy up afterwards. To prepare the meals for my younger brothers and sisters, clean house and to do the laundry. While I was sitting outside waiting for my Dad to finish, I looked up to the sky. I saw a figure coming toward me. It was a man. He must have been light as a feather to walk through the heavens the way that he did. He stopped a short distance away from me and hovered there, smiling kindly at me, with his hands outstretched. I figured I must be dreaming or imagining things (a knight in shining armour perhaps). The figure stayed there for several minutes before disappearing. This visitation fuelled my desire to find out more about Jesus when I got older. As a child I knew the story of Jesus walking on water, so I figured that maybe he could walk through the clouds as well. God has always had his hand on my life. I suffered some childhood trauma. Fear of Men, rejection, lonliness and inferiority. One of my brothers got shot. One of my brothers committed suicide and the rest of my family ended up in addiction, crime and abusive relationships.

These early memories haven't bothered me for a very long time. I know who I am in Christ, who it was that kept me and saved me. His name is Jesus!!

as a child i remember some of the bad things, most i try not to think about, just to horrible, but i remember christmas's at my grandfathers house(grandmother died before any of us were born)we were poor, but not in faith,my fondest christmas was when he made us basket of apples, oranges, banana's ,nuts and ribbon candy, man i miss that.christmas morning he'd make biscuits from scratch with fried salt meat, and hot chocalate from scratch.then he's give us a hammer to burst the nuts open and we'd do that all day,but after he died i felt so alone i was 8, i felt my world unravel, but my other grandmother was a preacher and she taught me about Jesus until she died in 1999.Jesus has always keep me in his loving care.being the second of 4 girls and 1 younger brother we had some good fights,my oldest sister gave me a shot with the cig. lighter in the car,i payed her back with a hatchet in the back, lols it didn't break the skin.my oldest sister has recently came to the Lord so we have a special bond and i love her dearly,we stand in the gap for all our family.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Daniel: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 3

      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this study, I'll be focusing on Daniel and his picture of the resurrection and its connection with Yeshua (Jesus).

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
