Hi all, first is there a QVC mindset?  Yes I am positive there is. What is it ? It is about substituting real activity, productive activity that results in satisfaction for  instead the easy viewing of stuff not needed, but wanted for the hype that has nourished the  desire to have it,  something, anything, a  gift for self, and then another and another.

And then to  return much if not all of it after the party of opening those QVC boxes that come each day. It becomes addictive, got to have a box to open, when will UPS arrive?

Seems to me to be close kin to a theft to order that which one has no intention of keeping and paying for, but that is what I saw daily when I was a landlord. Tenants absolutely  addicted to getting those boxes, and then UPS picking them up again.

So what of this mindset, how is it individuals (some or many) have come to substitute for being productive and making well reasoned use of the gain from productivity with instead sitting at home alone waiting for the quick fix of opening a cardboard box?

In part I would say big box stores have a part in this mind set. They move into town have plenty of employees to help customers find products at a lower price, put many Mom and Pop stores out of business, reduce employees now when one goes to big box store they can not find the product or an employee to help find it. So in 1/4 of the time of a trip to the big box store one can buy online most thing and it is delivered.

Interesting; what I saw was the number of returns UPS seemed to pick up each day at the apartments.

Personally I hate doing online purchases as it seems nearly every time I do  my credit card bill  gets some unauthorized bill too. I recently ordered some car mirrors and then also got a bill for a ride on some Japan rapid transit ride. I ordered  a NRA CD and found two multi thousand dollar tv systems on my bill  from the same physical area as those CD's came from. Grrr.

Guess I have a different mindset,  a "Living Fossil" mindset. Liked it better when I carried  USA gold backs. well silver certificates anyway, and live merchants knew what they were.

Lord help me if I ever actually live long enough to have  purchase some of the stuff  presented as personal clothing items on tv. "Only 99,999 left in,- oh it's the one color you will like least, but hurry hurry hurry." LOL

Why I liked the days of Zodys better.  Their stuff was mostly in purple.  That was just a nasty flashback. Zodys, Ha! "We" have progressed from a Zodys to a QVC. All in a world of indistinguishable differences as the time of the signs clicks on, the big hand on 59 the little hand almost past 11 but not quite.

Counting it all for joyl the good, the bad, and the ugly for there is hope certain in our Lord. He is coming soon, not likely riding in UPS truck though. (Did I say that?) Apologies to the more serious minded this morning.

Well being a landlord you would see more than I because I have lived in houses last forty years. I do not doubt what you saw. It may be people younger than me (1950) do go overboard with returns or are never satisfied with what they get or did not pay enough attention during the purchasing. It could be a mindset if one is brought up in a family of upper middle class or higher. I had/have 6 brother 4 sisters and most of my life there was no internet. People with just a couple kids do seem to spoil them to different degrees.

All this is like you said speculation on my part. In my teens I new kids that had their own car or had 3 or for guitars in their rooms or two different drum sets.

Hi @NConly It's interesting that FedEx has even become a verb: to FedEx a parcel, etc.

Perhaps the people doing all the online ordering are lonely ? If the only person you see all day is the person delivering or collecting parcels then that may account for a good many orders being placed

Well, if so, it's an expensive way of having company all so briefly..........

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
