The interviewee concluded with "Normal everyday Americans make the difference" - "don't rely on the government".  

And isn't that the way it should be?  Normal everyday people helping one another.

BTW- There is yet another "storm" that will likely come into Florida Tuesday through Thursday. Likely to be named tomorrow. Might be a tropical storm, or a hurricane. Likely to come in at Fort Myers, Fl.

Who knows what it will do once it crosses the State, will it go North  along the  Atlantic coastline, or out to sea? Could be another 5 - 8 inches of rain event for part of the Gulf coast.

Also; rules being rules the rebuilding, if it is to be done will not be accomplished by those already living here.  For if 29% of a structure is damaged it must be rebuilt,- to new code or raised up on stilts to new codes.

That will mean properties sitting for some long time until owners give up and sell as is to  developers of  massively expensive seasonal dwellings, multimillion dollar units of imported marbles and granites for the very wealthy of this world that have weekender and seasonal homes everywhere they want one.

The older less affluent home owners? Well they will have to move along somewhere. Maybe rent one of those $3,000 a month apartments, those bags of four story splinters going up most everywhere all looking alike all using up most the available concrete for slabs and wood for framing and sheathing, and of course HVAC units production. It is going to be a  real challenge for anyone to get a replacement HVAC unit for one ruined by this hurricane Helene.

AND just who is going the be the labor force  for the long term rebuilding of the  roads, the new apartments, the new landscape and hardscape? Americans? White's or people of color, native born Americans? Not likely.  

Illegals? Yep! Without their labor on structure building and road making crews nothing will get accomplished.  It's just the way it is.

BTW-When did it become the federal government's responsibility to maintain and rebuild local city county and State roadways?   Aren't the many so called roadways at rural North Carolina, and Georgia  private roads (Trails really); or county roads, not Federally funded highways?

If the States do not have money for rebuilding that is going to be a seriously expensive hit for  all residents of the States to have to fund one way  or another.  Reality, I think, is "half back" paradise is about to  become very very expensive. 

I fully expect there will be emergency taxation that will hit us all that have chosen,  of our own accord, to buy places in those areas.

In the meantime; it is extremely sad that so many  are dead or have been seriously injured in this catastrophic weather event, one like no other most of us have ever been through. Humans helping other humans is the need of the day week and month.

There is no productivity to be found in blaming blue people  nor red people.

No more hurricanes or natural disasters please.   There are a lot of helps around here.  I remember 2 or 3 years ago we went through a big hurricane and were out of power for days.  There was a kind man who after cleaning up his own yard started cleaning debris from his neighbor's yard without saying a word to anyone.  This neighbor had worked 3 days straight as an on duty cop to protect people's homes from looters.  He didn't even get to come home to tend to his own home and property.  Other neighbors saw this act of kindness and joined in cleaning each others yards.  It was contagious, going from home to home and continuing down the street.  By the time the cop came home, his yard was clean with limbs and debris stacked on the curb for waste management to pick up.  And, that's the way of caring, generous souls.
