The soul and the spirit are the two primary immaterial parts ascribed to humanity in Scripture. Discerning the precise differences between the two can be confusing. The word spirit refers only to the immaterial facet of humanity. Human beings have a spirit, but we are not spirits. However, in Scripture, only believers are said to be spiritually alive.  1  Corinthians 2:11

From a study I did on the Trinity, I learned that the spirit is the life force of anyone and the soul is the actual person. God has ordained the spirit to operate with the soul, and they are one, even though they are two distinct elements. They are only separated at death. This is why it is so important to have the Holy Spirit unified with our souls through Jesus, because our spirits were never designed to transport the soul into heaven after the death of the body.

We are all souls that occupy a physical vessel. Our spirit was given us at creation, when we were made in the image of God and after His likeness.  Because of sin, our spirit is dead until God regenerates our dead spirit, which is our rebirth.  When our physical vessel dies, our soul and spirit returns to God until we are given incorruptible glorified bodies.

We are new creations when we accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior.

Scripture tells us that we're made in the Lord's image and after his likeness.

In 1 Jn 5:7: For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit: and these three are one.

Scripture also tells us that we have a body, a soul, and a spirit. It also tells us that our bodies are made up of flesh, blood, and bone.  If our bodies have three component parts then so also should our souls and spirits. I suspect that our soul's component parts are intellect, emotions, and violation.  And our spirits are composed of conscience, intuition, and the Holy Spirit in those who are complete, such as Adam before his fall and in the born again believer.  I wonder if that's not where we get 666 for the number of a man. Rev 13: 18: Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six.

From this, I imagine that Jesus compares to our bodies, being the outward expression of the Lord, by whom, all things were made and who holds all things together by the word of his power.  The Holy Spirit compares to our spirits, and the Father compares to our souls.  The Word of God; who like the Holy Spirit and the Father, is eternal, self-aware, and infinite. Jn 14: 9: Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Shew us the Father? And of the Holy Spirit, Jesus tells us in Jn 16: 13: Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.  Thus we are temporal, finite, and self-aware individuals patterned after an infinite Lord God Almighty.

By this, the Lord isn't just three seperate beings united in agreement, but he is a single being as described in Deut 6: 4: Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD: and at the same time, he is described in 1 Jn 5:7 above; For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit: and these three are one.

Based upon the above let me go even further out on a limb, and say: As Jesus is one with the Father, so we'll be one with the Lord, as per Jn 17: 21-23: That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me. And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one: I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me.

I agree that spirit and soul are separate parts of Man.

For the word of God [is] living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. - Heb 4:12

My understanding of the soul it is the mind/soul (will/desires/emotions) (nehfesh).   The spirit (ruach) is our conscience that guides us.  Sometimes we choose to follow our conscience sometimes we go against our conscience.  God communicates to use primarily though our spirit.  When we are born again, it is the spirit that is reborn in man because the old spirit was corrupted by sin.   A spiritual man is one that follows his born again spirit that has the Holy Spirit dwelling.  A carnal man is one that ignores his spirit but chooses to follow the desires of his body. (flesh).  God's word is what helps us distinguish what is of the spirit and what is of the soulish flesh.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
