 now 18 year olds

PS: @lrs68 Seems like now at around 18, some ink is kind of a coming of age extension of the pursuit of ear piercings that will likely already have been gotten.

My wife and I talked to a young lady of around 18 I suppose with the whole of John 3.16 tattooed on her wrist area; it was her favorite Bible verse and mine also; and I reckon she quietly relished the trip to the parlor to make her a tattooed young adult with a design that would be witness-friendly.

I am not going to say had I been saved when I was 18 that I would have chosen to get a tattoo but I do agree a John 3:16 tattoo is pretty decent considering my tattoos are of male\female grim reapers, assortment of Celtic tattoos, mythical dragons, and the last tattoo is a cross that is as long as my entire ankle to knee.   Unfortunately, none of my tattoos are small and decent.   I really should get them removed.

Thanks, @lrs68, for your comment.

Yes, at that age particularly, going in to have her dermis done in all the words of that great Gospel text likely gave her the sense of a real boost on the threshold of adulthood.

Re. regretted ink, it can work in various ways, of course. If a man has the tattoo of a pin up but is then truly converted, he might opt - as an alternative to complete removal (which can be difficult and expensive) - for having an artist tattoo a bikini onto the existing nude torso or even an entire pantsuit instead.

Or if a truly converted woman has the name of a former non-Christian bf tattooed in an existing design, then she might opt for an artist to do a partial cover up more suitably reflective of her current convictions; e.g., BILL turned into BIBLE.

A good artist can offer options.

"My husband also was tatooed before getting saved. Another product of the military, but he is also one that likes tatoos. He did get another one after he got saved though. See he had two naked women on his left arm and he felt convicted because he was raising two daughters and he didn't want them to think that, that's the way men should look at women. So he always wanted to have a large piece put on him...so he got an oriental dragon (because they look cool) and it would cover both of the tatoos he had on that arm. Granted this one covers more of his body than the others did but it is in better taste and less expensive then trying to have them removed. His heart was in the right place when he decided to get this one done. He also made sure that it could be covered up by a long sleve shirt as to not stumble anyone. I believe that God knows our hearts and He is the only one with the right to make judgement on such issues as this.

It may sound strange to most but he enjoys the process of getting a tatoo."

I just don't understand the piercing thing especially when it comes to men.  My nephews have huge holes in their ears that some plastic looking plug fits into it and then these stainless steel looking like a safety pin bars in their noses or eyebrows or side of the head.

I tell them you know that you are not someone from a tribal community but you are white from a country farm community.  They don't care they think they look like a real man :kanoso:

Hi @lrs68 Yes, well you probably didn't go through the earring phase yourself.

But decades back, when teen girls - and their moms - got into the custom of having 2 or 3 studs shot into each ear, it became harder and harder to deny a teen boy 1 earring clicked into one ear if indeed his sister and his mom already had 2 or 3 each side.

As regards ink, I saw this comment:

We had young men my age around 15 in my day that had one ear pierced but it didn't appeal to me.

But the comment about a youth pastor needing tattoos as a requirement is just simply sad.   It's so sad it's a tragedy in my opinion.

Hi @lrs68 I guess as regards tattoos on young men - and women - in ministry roles, I guess it would depend on what the tattoo design was of, to some extent........(faith-based, or whatever...)

Young men getting ear piercings was very widespread decades back; and insofar as I even remember accurately at all some of the young men whose baptisms I attended decades back at conservative evangelical churches would have been wearing earrings.

(It was so widespread; it was what so many young men just did.)

FYI:

From my last trip everyone got a scripture tattoo..Some meaningful scriptures. One girl said she was so thankful .. realizing she could relate the tattoo to her life..I had that tattoo planned out for nearly a year (11months) .. Maybe next year when I go back (these trips are going to be regular every 4 or so months trips) I will get another. ..One guy decided last minute but everyone literally spent hours on their phone that day looking up verses and verse tattoos ..They are meaningful to them

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
