The Messiah told those who believed in him that they would not sin: “and you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free [from sin]” (John 8:32).  However, many Christians believe that they continue to sin. The obvious conclusion is that they have not heard the truth.

The apostle Paul wrote this about the gospel:

Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand;

By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.

For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;

And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures” (1 Corinthians 15:1-4).

It is important to note that when Paul wrote this letter, the books of the New Testament had not yet been written, i.e., the Scriptures were the books of the Old Testament, not the Gospels of Matthew, Luke, Mark, and John.  Christ himself preached this true gospel by referring to the books of the Old Testament (Luke 24:44-46), and Paul did the same from morning to night (Acts 28:23). The New Testament accounts are usually preached in a church, but this is not the gospel that Christ and the apostles preached, which, according to them, saves and delivers from sin.

Have you heard the witnesses in the Old Testament of how Christ died for our sins, was buried, and rose again on the third day? Please share if you know.

Christ died for sin and was buried:  Isaiah 53:5-12: "

"But he was pierced for our transgressions;
he was crushed for our iniquities;
upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace,
and with his wounds we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned—every one—to his own way;
and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all.

He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth; like a lamb that is led to the slaughter, and like a sheep that before its shearers is silent, so he opened not his mouth. By oppression and judgment he was taken away; and as for his generation, who considered that he was cut off out of the land of the living, stricken for the transgression of my people? And they made his grave with the wicked and with a rich man in his death, although he had done no violence, and there was no deceit in his mouth. Yet it was the will of the Lord to crush him; he has put him to grief; when his soul makesh  an offering for guilt, he shall see his offspring; he shall prolong his days; the will of the Lord shall prosper in his hand.  Out of the anguish of his soul he shall see  and be satisfied;
by his knowledge shall the righteous one, my servant,
make many to be accounted righteous,
and he shall bear their iniquities.
Therefore I will divide him a portion with the many, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong, because he poured out his soul to death and was numbered with the transgressors;
yet he bore the sin of many, and makes intercession for the transgressors."

Christ resurrected from the dead: Psalm 16:10:

"For you will not abandon my soul to Sheol, or let your holy one see corruption."

Psalm  49:15:  "But God will ransom my soul from the power of Sheol, for he will receive me.  Selah."

Thank you for your reply. Certainly, these are important scriptures with prophecies about the Messiah. However, they are missing "on the third day". In addition, there is much more to it. The Savior said,

And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself.

And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behooved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day (Luke 24:27,46).

First, Moses also wrote about the death, burial and resurrection of the Messiah. Where? Second, "expounded" means that He gave many examples. Paul's account confirms this:

And when they had appointed him a day, there came many to him into his lodging; to whom he expounded and testified the kingdom of God, persuading them concerning Jesus, both out of the law of Moses, and out of the prophets, from morning till evening. (Acts 28:23).

What are these examples?

I am asking not about the Gospels according to Matthew, Mark, Luke or John, which I am sure you have heard, but the Gospel according to the Old Testament (1 Cor 15:1-4). Have you heard the witnesses in the Old Testament of the Bible of how Christ died for our sins, was buried, and rose again on the third day? Please share if you know.

From some notes:

Genesis 3:15 - Known as the "Protoevangelium" (first gospel), this verse hints at a future victory over sin and death:

"And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will crush your head, and you will strike his heel."

Christians see this as a prophecy of Jesus (the offspring of the woman) defeating Satan, though Satan would wound Him (interpreted as the crucifixion).

Isaiah 7:14 - A prophecy of the virgin birth:

"Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel."

Matthew 1:22-23 ties this directly to Jesus’s birth, with "Immanuel" meaning "God with us."

Isaiah 9:6-7 - A promise of a child who brings eternal rule:

"For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace."

This is often linked to Jesus as the Messiah and King.

Psalm 22 - A vivid depiction of suffering resembling the crucifixion:

"My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? ... All who see me mock me; they hurl insults, shaking their heads... They pierce my hands and my feet... They divide my garments among them and cast lots for my clothing." (vv. 1, 7, 16, 18)

Jesus quotes the opening line on the cross (Matthew 27:46), and the details align with the crucifixion accounts in the Gospels.

Isaiah 53 - The "Suffering Servant" passage, often seen as a detailed prophecy of Jesus’s death and atonement:

"He was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed... He was oppressed and afflicted, yet he did not open his mouth; he was led like a lamb to the slaughter... After he has suffered, he will see the light of life and be satisfied." (vv. 5, 7, 11)

This is widely interpreted as describing Jesus’s sacrificial death and resurrection.

Daniel 9:24-26 - A prophecy about the Messiah’s timing and death:

"Seventy ‘sevens’ are decreed for your people... to anoint the Most Holy Place... After the sixty-two ‘sevens,’ the Anointed One will be put to death and will have nothing."

Christians often calculate this timeline to align with Jesus’s ministry and crucifixion.

Psalm 16:10 - A hint of resurrection:

"Because you will not abandon me to the realm of the dead, nor will you let your faithful one see decay."

Peter and Paul (Acts 2:27, 13:35) apply this to Jesus’s resurrection, arguing that David (the psalmist) died and decayed, but Jesus did not.

Thank you for listing these important prophecies about Christ. As you probably noticed, the third day is missing. My point is somewhat different: there is a sequence of death, burial and resurrection in the Old Testament:

And he said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me.

Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures,

 And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behooved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day (Luke 24:44-46).

Where did Moses and prophets write about the death, burial and resurrection of the Messiah on the third day?

It looks like no one reading this thread heard the Gospel (1 Corinthians 15:1-4, see the first message). Can someone please confirm that this is the case?

Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.

Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God. (Matthew 5:5,8).

Is there any meek and pure in heart to openly say that he or she has not heard the Gospel as described by Paul in 1 Corinthians 15:1-4 (the first message)?

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

      Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

      This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

      You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

      Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

      I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

      For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

      2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

      So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

      Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
      Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

      Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

      As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

      Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
      Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

      So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
