The Jewish Seventh-day Sabbath was given by Jehovah specifically to ISRAEL, not to the Church of Jesus Christ. Exodus 31:13 could not plainer -

"Speak thou unto THE CHILDREN OF ISRAEL, saying, Verily My Sabbaths YOU (IE, Israel) shall keep; for it is a sign between Me AND YOU (IE, Israel) throughout YOUR (IE, Israel) generations, that YOU (IE, Israel) may know that I am the Lord Who doth sanctify YOU (IE, Israel)." Exodus 31:13.

Jehovah God links the Jewish seventh-day Sabbath WITH THE NATION OF ISRAEL on four occasions in this one chapter......Verses 13a, 13b, 15, 17. QUESTION: If the Seventh-day Sabbath (Saturday) is a "perpetual sign" between Jehovah AND ISRAEL, how in the entire universe can it be said that it's intended for the living Church of the Lord Jesus Christ which, by the way, is NOT Israel but an entirely DIFFERENT Body altogether?

How dare anyone usurp or alter in any way this specific, settled, sure-fire divine arrangement between Jehovah and His Old Testament earthly people, ISRAEL?!

Dare IBM steal the A.T.& T. logo? Can the New York Yankees Ball Club start using the New York Mets logo without written permission? Are the arrangements between Jehovah and literal Israel to now be construed as being of much, much lesser importance than man's? Incredible beyond words.

Any organization which would elevate the teachings of one, Ellen Gould Harmon White, to the level of the inspired revelations of the Apostle Paul requires much assistance. The Jewish Seventh-day folk should beware of perverting God's marvellous grace with White's arrogant speculations.

Finally, Galatians 3:19-29 constitutes the death-knell for every SDA legalist. The Apostle Paul underscores five vital points re the Mosaic code. The Mosaic law is:

1. INTERIM (or temporary) - verse 19a - "TILL the Seed should come";

2. INFERIOR (or minor, compared to faith) - verse 19,20 - in the hand of a mediator";

3. INSUFFICIENT (or limited) - verse 21,22 - "the promise of faith to them that believe";

4. INSTRUMENTAL (or directional to something else) - verse 23,24 - "to bring us TO CHRIST";

5. INVALID (or void, annulled, abolished) - verse 25 - "After faith is come....NO LONGER UNDER A SCHOOLMASTER" (IE, the Mosaic code, Verse 24).

I unconditionally choose the Apostle Paul over Ellen Gould Harmon White (and William Miller) without the bat of an eyelash. In the world of biblical hermeneutics, the difference between fiction and reality is that fiction (man's suppositions) has to make biblical sense. Ellen Gould Harmon White's certainly does not. Her rambling theories, including her weird prophetic conclusions, decidedly underwhelms us. Res ipsa loquitor.

Now off later for a dinner of Amuse-Bouches, a bite of rigatoni, perhaps some caviar on a tiny glass staircase, the pride of the celebrated eatery TRU. It's the appetizer to the appetizer. Just don't call them hors d'oeuvres.

Onward!

WHO AMONG THE MIGHTY IS LIKE YOU, O GOD? AMEN!

Hey Art,

Don't think you will find many EGW supporters here. Some Sabbath keepers though.

I was raised SDA, Praise God for delivering me out of that!

Blessings to you. Check out my website :D

I was lurking first time and I just had to register to agree with you. I think Christians don't keep the Jewish Sabbath because they accept the first day of the week teaching which is correct but haven't thought it through that the Sabbath was given to Israel.

I am studying as well as I can, the Law because I feel that the written Law was not given to the Gentiles who lived outside of Israel, either. I would appreciate your thoughts on that.

Now I must go and Google Helen, I've never heard of her. :unsure:

I happen to like a lot of the Seventh Day principles. I realize that as an organization it can get quite legalistic, but it seems like anytime someone wants to follow a principle based on the Law they are at risk for becoming 'legalistic' or being accused of such.

I think that the principles behind the laws that the Lord laid down were for the good of the people, and anytime we try to follow them we will be blessed. We are also very fortunate to have liberty to not follow them as we see best (between us and the Lord) if it will be to our detriment.

I personally feel very convicted about the Sabbath. God sanctified this Holy Day in the beginning, before Adam even. I have an intense desire to keep the Sabbath, but, boy, it sure goes against the world all around, so it is difficult, but I am striving for this in my life.

Did you know that the Seventh Dayers wash each other feet during some of their services? I think this is a wonderful practice. I also think their attention to diet and health is commendable.

I really get turned off by these blanket critiques of other versions of the faith. Bottom line is a deep love for the Lord and a desire to serve Him. I see many Seventh Dayer's walking this out with all their heart. I am also aware of cultlike tendencies that crop up in nearly all of the branches of Chrsitianity.

OA: I'd never survive their religious practices...not in a million.

We hardcore southerners enjoy wonderful things like BBQ ribs, Southern Fried Chicken, Corn fritters, grits, Corn on the Cob, Chicken Fried Steak, Taters, gravy, greens...and lots of watermelon....

Since it's warm and sunny most of the year, the grill is often in use...

Now, the good news is we're real active and busy year round (nice weather)...but we have to be in order to work off all the calories.

Sorry...I heard SDA and the first thing I thought of was, "rabbit food"... If eating meat is a sin, I'm in big trouble.

Yod,

I agree, the Sabbath was not changed to Sunday. Hebrews 4 explains to me that it is "Today" "Come unto Me all ye who labor and are heavy laden and I will give you rest ....and you will find rest for your souls.

The thought of dividing my spiritual life into secular and religious days seems strange to me since my conviction is that every day I should honor God "In all you do, do it to the Glory of God"

One Accord, be very careful of wolves in sheep clothing. They have a form of godliness but deny the power.

Here are a few quotes from Ms. Ellen ( and Mrs. Mac - you couldn't find it under Helen because it's Ellen, she's there I'm sure.)

"We would charge all not to wash their dishes on the Sabbath..." (Ellen G. White, Signs of the Times, May 25, 1882).

"Women should be educated and qualified just as thoroughly as possible to become practitioners in the delicate diseases which afflict women, that their secret parts should not be exposed to the notice of men...It is a most horrible experience, this revealing the secret parts of women to men, or men being treated by women." (Kress Collection, p. 23)

"I have been shown that the true followers of Jesus will discard picnics, donations, shows, and other gatherings for pleasure." (Testimonies, vol. 1, p. 288)

"Many carelessly put off blackening their boots, and SHAVING, until after the beginning of the Sabbath. This should not be. If any neglect to do such work on a working day, they should have respect enough for God's holy time to let their BEARDS REMAIN UNSHAVEN, their boots rough and brown, until the Sabbath is past." (Letter 104, 1901)

"A view of things was presented before me in which the students were playing games of TENNIS and CRICKET. Then I was given instruction regarding the character of these amusements. They were presented to me as a species of idolatry, like the idols of the nations." (Counsels to Parents, Teachers, and Students, p. 350)

"Parents should be the only teachers of their children until they have reached EIGHT to TEN years of age...The only schoolroom for children from eight to ten years of age should be in the open air amid opening flowers and nature's beautiful scenery. And their only textbook should be the treasures of nature." (Testimonies, vol. 3, p. 137)

"One time while in Australia, a brother who had been acting as a missionary in the islands, told mother of the sickness and death of his first-born son. He was seriously afflicted with malaria, and his father was advised to give him quinine, but in view of counsel in the testimonies to avoid the use of quinine he refused to administer it, and his son DIED." (W. C. White letter, Sept. 10, 1935)

Pretty strange woman, don't ya think? If you want to read up on the errors of the SDA church I suggest www.truthorfables.com very informative.

Wordsower: I have an entire video documentary about the SDA and Ellen White...I also have a book by White as well..

In all fairness, folks...this was written in the 1800's....before we even had much of a public school system...before televisions.

Now, her books continued to be published long after; I have a book by White dated 1943. But my understanding is that this was written before 1900...so the American culture was very, very different during this period.

People back then would FREAK OUT if they saw what we were living through. People lived very simple lives then. Women covered their ankles in pubic; women rarely worked outside the home; men were always the heads of the household; children showed respect to all adults and never called them by name...ya'll, it was a different culture and world Ellen White grew up in and nothing like what we are experiencing.

White died long ago...and never lived to see a computer or modern conventions...

I can't recall when she died but I saw pictures from her books and the women were dressed kinda like "Little House on the Prairie"...

So, we need to put it in perspective...people's culture and the times do play a huge part here.

BTW, while I am definitely not SDA, I have read one of White's books and it's among my favorites... but that's just my opinion.

The documentary shows SDA's as very rigid and legalistic...they remind me a little of the Amish except the Amish do eat meat.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

      Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

      This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

      You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

      Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

      I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

      For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

      2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

      So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

      Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
      Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

      Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

      As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

      Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
      Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

      So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
