The Facts about Planned Parenthood.

I have been doing some research and wanted to share what I have learned about Planned Parenthood and founder Margaret Sanger. Many people on this site already know that Planned Parenthood is the largest provider of Abortion to women in the United States, but some may not.

Here is a little bit of Background about Margaret Sanger, the founder of Planned Parenthood. She was born in 1879 the sixth of 11 children. Her father was a vocal advocate of socialism. In 1900 she began training to be a nurse but discontinued it soon after marriage to William Sanger. They had three children prior to her 1921 divorce. In 1922 Sanger married the elderly J. Noah Slee, who was very wealthy which gave her financial independence to pursue her birth control and eugenic (conerned with producing only healthy children) goals.

In 1916 Sanger opened America's first birth control clinic in Brooklyn, N.Y. Planned Parenthood Federation of America traces its beginnings back to this clinic. Sanger was quickly arrested under New York law that forbid the dissemination of birth control information. Two years earlier she was indicted under federal statute for sending birth control information through the U.S. mail. I might also mention that every Christian denomination in the United States was against birth control at this time, only one Christian denomination still holds to this teaching.

Sanger was a writer and frequently promoted the belief that the human race could be improved if certain people did not reproduce. In 1923 Sanger wrote a book (Women and the New Race) where she stated "Birth control itself, often denounced as a violation of natural law, is nothing more or less than the facilitation of the process of weeding out the unfit, of preventing the birth of defectives or of those who will become defective." (p. 229)

Sanger spoke to the Ku Klux Klan. In her 1938 autobiography Sanger described her talk that she gave to wht women's branch of the KKK at Silver Lake, N.J. She summed up how well she got along with the KKK group:

"A dozen invitations to speak to similar groups were proffered. The conversation went on and on, and when we were finally through it was too late to return to New York."

Among the many insidious initiatives associated with Sanger was The Negro Project. This idea was conceived by Dr. Clarence Gamble, the main idea was to recruit charismatic black ministers who would encourage black women to practice birth control, thereby reducing the number of black babies being born. In a December 10, 1939 letter, Sanger wrote to Dr. Gamble:

"We do not want the word to go out that we want to exterminate the Negro population and the minister is the man who can straighten that idea out if it ever occurs to any of their more rebellious members."

Sanger and "The Pill" Sanger's efforts to promote contraception gained acceptance during the 1940's, she then turned to creating a birth control pill. Sanger's Planned Parenthood gave steriod biologist Gregory Pincus grants totaling $21,000 between 1949 and 1952 to help her reach her goal. In 1952, Sanger also met with the wealthy Katherine Dexter McCormick, who left 1 million for the pill project in her will. Testing began in 1956, using poor women in Puerto Rico as test subjects. By 1960 the U.S. food and drug administration approved the pill, thus setting the stage for the sexual revolution of the 1960's.

Sanger's Legacy is a deadly one. She lived to see the Supreme Court endorse her life's crusade in 1965 when, in Griswold v. Connecticut, the justices defined a Constitutional right to privacy and declared the law against contraception unconstitutional. This case forms the basis for the Roe V. Wade decision legalizing abortion as well as the 2003 decision in Lawrence v. Texas that struck down the Texas sodomy law.

Today Sanger's Planned Parenthood is the United States largest abortion provider, having reported performing 3,019,559 abortions from 1977 through 2001. Planned Parenthood claimes to have 875 clinics in all but tow states, North Dakota and Mississippi. From 1987 to 2002 the organization reported a total income of more than $7.5 Billion, with nearly $2.5 Billion coming from government grants and contracts (Your tax money spent killing babies). Planned Parenthood still honors it founder, bestowing annual Maggie awards in her name.

Please understand what Planned Parenthood is and DO NOT Support them or any organization or bussiness that donates time or money to them. Also spread the word to friends and family Planned Parenthood and its sick past.

While you are RC and I, evangelical....we are in total and complete agreement regarding the sanctity of life and the absolute necessity to preserve the lives of unborn infants, who are unable to protect and defend themselves.

One thing I find continually uniting Catholics and Evangelicals are the battles we face in protecting the innocent. This includes not only the unborn, but orphans, widows, the sick and the elderly.

Despite some doctrinal differences that we share, we are unified in our desire to serve as we are led by the Lord...to care for widows and orphans in their distress, to minister to the poor and needy and be living sacrifices to the Lord Jesus Christ.

RE: Margaret Sanger, I am very well familiar with her. She's long since gone, now...but the damage done is insurmountable.

Her "new agey" philosophies" and bigotry have made her a name (not one I'd want to have personally). I hate to be a "doom-n-gloomer" but I can only see things getting worse, as we come nearer and nearer to Christ's return.

The thing that I have found to be very unfortunate, is that biological aspects are referred to as mechanical. I read in another thread that babies are referred to as embryotic. This is true. It is also true that the spiritual and emotional aspects that make up a person are disregarded. Christianity is quickly becoming the only outlet that views a person as being made up of body, soul and spirit. Flesh and blood.

For a long time, science has tried to prove/disprove the existance of a spirit. Their discoveries have led to biological answers instead of spirit ones. The word spirit has become defined as a persons cultural aspect instead of the existance of a spirit inside each and all of us.

Margaret Sangers dark history has shed light on a lot of things I wondered about. Thanks for the Post.
