CHRIST has not returned yet, when HE that is perfect (Jesus) returns at HIs second coming , ...so we still have the gifts today.

We seek the Giver not the gifts. But, they are still here.

BE CAREFUL:

what we say lest we blaspheme the Holy Spirit.

We can ask of GOD, if we have not or understand not and HE will give to those who truely seek HIM.

another thought there for those opposed, beside that being unscriptual, if it is only known language, there would not be an interperter needed! Let us reason together. Alot of people who say it is confusion, have never seen what it really is all about and how it works Biblically.

I am careful to discuss this as not to allow any blaspheme of the Holy Spirit as we all should be here on this ..... Let us hold our horses and toungesand pray on the matter, trustin GOd in ALL THINGS. We never want to say what is the Working of The Holy SPirit as anything less, better not to speak then!! (lest you unwittingly blaspheme the Holy Spirit in your unbelief and ignorance)

Too many times people do not reason on all the scripture and too many times when we don't understand something we doubt GOd when we should doubt our own understanding limited as we are before an all knowing CREATOR!

GIFTS are here and this one is used for;

along with interpertation; to show unbelievers that this (the church) is of God as their source, that they may find God, (to Gods glory)

to edify the church itself,

for prayers for one another,

for prayers we give to others or for ourselves-and this can be at church or home or anyplace.

IT is strong prayer!

This is done in orderly fashion and if people have been doing it in disorder, than it is only order they need to learn. Simple as an announcement beofre church;

if you have something for the church then say alound and it should have interpertation,,

if this is for your self or private (as in private prayers for soemone, does not mean private in ways of secret), please do so quietly in your seat as not to disturb the church,

as God is GOd of order and not of confusion.

It really is that simple.

Alot of what we hear today is both gossip and blaspheme against the powerful working of the Holy SPirit.

This prayer is the language of angels also.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Another topic here but;
MOST OF ALL seek the GIVER not only the gift(we do ask GOD for gifts adn the holy Spirit dicerns over us what HE will give)
Know the Holy Spirit living in you. Know the voice of the Shepherd, for all HIs sheep HE said, know MY Voice!
Do not let yourself be mislead by those who would use this for personal gain. IT is for GODS WORK ALONE.
IF someone uses this for personal gain, though he save another- he himself has already gotten his reward!
YOU can know the difference when you know the Holy Spirit living in you.
We can know the difference what is of GOd and what is not, and we will not be deceived! ever!
in every instance i've seen it said in this thread that it was a known language, it seemed apparant to me that what was meant was that it was a language known to mankind, yet not known within the congregation or to the person using the gift as God intended it. the language being spoken may be a "dead" language, one no longer used, (usually, if i understand correctly, a language that was used at the Bible was being written) but it IS a known language. and that is a correct assessment. however, when one gives someone the gift in the setting of a congregation, it is also GOD who gives someone the gift of interpreting it, also. the interpreter does not personally know the language either. BOTH incidents are a manifestation of the Holy Spirit. if no interpretation was forthcoming, then the person who did the speaking in tongues was not doing so in accordance with scripture, and therefore not of the Holy Spirit. (i'm not speaking here of private prayer, but of the public use of tongues.)
this is a debate i refuse to enter into anymore. i believe in tongues, i pray in tongues, but i don't really promote it much anymore.
i have observed the lives of those who both do and don't speak in tongues and i have come to the conclusion that Love is the most excellent way. I deeply desire to be in unity with all my brothers and sisters in Christ, because i know we need each other.
thunderbyrd, this thread isn't debating the validity of tongues. the original poster asked if we could shed some light on the subject because they had never been around people that did until they recently began going to a church where tongues are being used, and they feel uncomfortable there. perhaps you could help provide that person with some insight without it becoming a heated debate. nobody here in this thread has said (that i've seen) that it isn't biblical, or isn't relevant... although one person did comment that there are people who believe it isn't.
speaking in tongues is a gift that's given by the Holy Spirit 'our Intercessor'.
there are times we need the spirit of God to help in the place of prayer ,so we would be able to pray as we ought to.
this happens even in the place of worship ,i sometimes run out of words that could adequately express what i feel about God. at times like this what i do is that i release myself trusting the the Spirit of God to help me.
if the gift of speaking with a strange tongue manifests i dont struggle to find out the meaning of what am saying ,because the Holy Spirit knows my heart and would not work contrary to my desires.
its however noteworthy to know that ,it's not every time the HolySpirit helps your Spiritman in the place of prayer that you must speak with a strange tongue.
atimes you will pray in your understanding, knowing fully well that the words you r uttering are not what you would have oridinarily thot of.
I'll be the first to admit I know little to nothing about speaking in tongues. I do know that members of an apostolic church told me once that I could not receive the Holy Spirit until I did speak in tongues. This was a complete fallacy. I received the Holy Spirit the second I received Christ as my Savior.
I do wonder though, if it's not supposed to be done unless an interpreter is present, then why do it without an interpreter? Also, doesn't anyone wonder how someone has the "power" to interpret? He could be saying, "this prayer is interpreted as such and such" and how would anyone know the difference? Sorry to sound so skeptical, but I am. :emot-pray:
I've always wondered if at pentecost, the gift of tongues wasn't simply one person being gifted with the ability to speak in a language completely foreign to them, but understood perfectly as another people's dialect, rather than just babble. I mean, like a person being enabled to speak Russian, who had never even heard Russian before, so that Russians could understand the good news.
I just don't understand the need to speak in a special prayer language you can't even understand. I think when my soul is in such turmoil I can't speak the proper words to the Father, the Holy Spirit intercedes for me, without a special language. I'm not saying I find this totally false, I'm just saying I don't understand it at all.
I'm more than willing to accept any gift God wants to bestow on me though. :emot-questioned:
I never knew how someone could speak in tongues. My half sister Carol and I were driving in her car a couple of years ago and all of a sudden she started talking some weird language. She just went on and on for like ten minutes. I was staring at her like "what the heck?"
She explained to me that she was given a gift and that she was speaking in tongues. I obvioiusly thought she was crazy but I now realize that there is such a thing as it. It is relly neat and cool to hear it.
    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.
      Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.
      This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.
      You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.
      Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”
    • Understanding the Enemy!
      I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!
      For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.
      2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.
      So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,
      Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
      Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.
      Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!
    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,
      As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.
      Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
      Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."
      So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
