Maybe someone out there knows more aboit this than I do. Someone I know is trying to get me to start going to Mary Kay meetings, and i said I'd attend one, but in my e-mIl there was message from the organization congratulating me on "starting a Mary Kay business". In order to go any further I have to give them my phone number. Now, I didn't say I wanted to start a business and after sleeping on it, I'm not sure I even want to attend a meeting. I did a little research last night, and came across some very negative things being said about Mary Kay.

I know the Mary Kay business uses the golden rule as their theme, but of course we know that while it's good to observe the goldern rule, it isn't "Christian".

Has anyone out there had any experience with Mary Kay, or know anything at all about it?

I could be wrong but I think most of those get rich quick companies work from the same book. I got burned by quixtar which is a predacessor of amway. They make everyone look so successful and whatnot but what they fail to tell you is that the people who are getting rich are the ones who put out the books and CDs and organize all the "business " conventions. I am assuming mary K is similar to quixtar. :whistling:

The only thing I have seen anyone make good money from home, is selling things on E-bay. People will go antiquing at garage sales, and then sell the items for 10 or 15 times what they payed for. You can rake in the bucks on E-bay or any other internet auction if you have stuff that people want.

It is never difficult to find negative comments about an individual or organization, but my experience has always been that Mary Kay is a fine organization. Being a Christian is not a prerequisite to becoming a distributor, but there is nothing stopping a person from being a Christian distributor. THe organization is endorsed by Zig Ziglar who wrote a little book called Confessions ofa Happy Christian.

first of all, to answer the first question, is mary kay a christian... mary kay is dead. whether or not she ever recieved Christ is irrelevant as far as choosing whether or not to sell their products, unless you would also base your choice to work for any employer on whether or not the owner/founder knew Jesus.

now, regardless of whether or not every person you work with (or who founded the company) is a christian or not, this could be an incredible opportunity to WITNESS to people. right?

ok, now, for the next question, has anyone had any experience with them. yes. but my experience doesn't really count because way back in the dark ages, there wasn't the kind of support network for the representatives that there is now, and i say that because my daughter is currently considering working for them, and i've been to one of the meetings here with her.

when i started, i bought $1500 worth of inventory (no longer a requirement) that sat on my closet shelf for years. i lived in a small town where nobody had much money. the "sales support meetings" were once a month in a hotel banquet room in dallas, about a 45 minute drive from me.

these days you can get in for $100 (or buy inventory if you choose to), and, i can't swear that they do this everywhere, but here in las vegas there are weekly support meetings. instead of going to people's houses to do makeup demonstrations (which you can still do as well), you can invite people to the regional office where one or two senior associates give makeovers while the rest of the associates attend a meeting. after that meeting is over, then they serve food for all associates and guests, and then have a brief little pow-wow where they share their progress, pat each other on the back, and invite the guests to become part of the team. the meeting was actually a blast. i enjoyed it, my daughter loved it, and then afterwards, my daughter and i were invited out for coffee and pie with a few of the associates just because they were going and because ash had expressed an interest.

did i forget to tell you that we were given limosine transportation to and from the meeting (from a designated location so that the limo driver could pick up all guests at once and take them to the regional offices) and we each got $30 worth of free cosmetics just for having attended? i'm not sure if that is done everywhere... i think that was something offered and paid for at the discretion of one of the senior associates just because it is a tax write off for her.

mary kay is NOT a get rich quick scheme and makes no claims as to such. they emphasize that it takes hard work and dedication, and your success is solely dependant on how hard you're willing to work. i'm not a natural salesperson, plus like i said, i lived in a small (economically depressed) town and had no support when i started. BUT, also like i said, that was in the dark ages, about a quarter of a century ago. i was amazed at how much things have changed, and fully support my daughter's willingness to start a business of her own selling their products. i think she could do ok with it. another girl there, who was 18 years old, had started three months prior... she said she still held a full time job making minimum wage, but thus far was earning as much with mary kay as she was from her job... not a huge sum, but it doubled her income, and that was ONLY by selling... she does not have any "recruits" working under her from which she would draw commission.

I love Mary Kay products. They are high quality but a tad expensive. You need a higher income clientel to buy them.

The parties are fun to attend, big make overs like a slumber party.

It is not a get rich quick scam.

More along the lines of Avon and Tupperware.

There is a market out there for it.

I suggest making a web page to help you sell them as well as the normal friends and family pitch.

Good luck.

Yes Mary Kay was a Christian and founded her company on christian principles. As to whether those principles are still being followed I don't know. I do know that her make up is just a little to pricey for me.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
