Greetings Yod,

speaking of OT heros....I love the Tenach because it is the lives of saints who walked out their faith for us to see...warts and all. Comparably, there aren't many biographies in the New Testament.

I agree with you. I too love the OT because of the very thing you have said. It is a rich history (warts and all) that men inspired by God passed down to us. This validates the OT scriptures as much as the Cross and Christ validates the NT. The OT wasn't "dressed up" to make it suitable for human consumption. All the bad and all the good was recorded. You sure won't find that today when everything has to be "Politically Correct".

I had forgotten about Joshua and Caleb, but I did mention "the prophets" - i.e. Joshua. You bring up a good point. I should also bring up the "mighty men of David". Bathsheeba's husband would not "go into his wife" until AFTER the war. Now that was dedication. This goes to show what influence sex can have over a person, as how it affected King David.

Like you said "warts and all". BTW do you understand this phrase:

1 Samuel 25:22 So and more also do God unto the enemies of David, if I leave of all that pertain to him by the morning light any that pisseth against the wall.

1 Samuel 25:34 For in very deed, as the LORD God of Israel liveth, which hath kept me back from hurting thee, except thou hadst hasted and come to meet me, surely there had not been left unto Nabal by the morning light any that pisseth against the wall.

1 Kings 14:10 Therefore, behold, I will bring evil upon the house of Jeroboam, and will cut off from Jeroboam him that pisseth against the wall, and him that is shut up and left in Israel, and will take away the remnant of the house of Jeroboam, as a man taketh away dung, till it be all gone.

1 Kings 16:11 And it came to pass, when he began to reign, as soon as he sat on his throne, that he slew all the house of Baasha: he left him not one that pisseth against a wall, neither of his kinsfolks, nor of his friends.

1 Kings 21:21 Behold, I will bring evil upon thee, and will take away thy posterity, and will cut off from Ahab him that pisseth against the wall, and him that is shut up and left in Israel,

2 Kings 9:8 For the whole house of Ahab shall perish: and I will cut off from Ahab him that pisseth against the wall, and him that is shut up and left in Israel:

It appears to be a commonly understood expression and I have never heard anyone or saw any explanation as to its etymology or what it was intended to mean.

I'm sure you know this but whenever the "law" is mentioned (the Torah) it was synonymous with Moses and here Jesus was relegating the Torah to the back seat, taking second to the forthcoming New Testament (New Covenant).

I have heard it explained that the reason that Moses could not cross the river Jordan into the promised land was because he is representative of the law, and it is grace that brings us into the promised land.

That is good typology. The law "kills us", and it is Jesus that gives us life.
