So basically everything you see written in the New Testement is what we are commanded to follow. If I chose not do follow any part of it then I am a transgressor of the law which in turn is a sin.
Sorry, I'm new here and haven't read the whole thread, but I have a question directed toward anyone:

Is there anything that we are commanded to do (in the NT) besides to love God and to follow the golden rule? (Luke 10:25-28)

If you will notice, the laws Paul said we were not to mix with Christianity were all based on Israel's separation. They had nothing to do with God's standard of holiness.

True, and it is of this holiness that we should all strive to live by. What I was saying is that we are covered by the Blood of Christ if we fall short at times, if in fact, we come to Him for forgiveness. If we go through storms which we choose rebellion or backsliding for a time, we may come to Him for cleansing if our hearts truly repent. I don't think that it would affect our salvation if that much was settled already.

To me, there is a separation between salvation and God's punishment of those that have already claimed Christ.

Once salvation is settled, I don't believe it is taken away, but that does not mean He will not punish us or chasten us for our misdeeds. A sinner that has not accepted Christ prays in vain until he has accepted Christ. I don't think God will honor that person's prayers until he is washed by the Blood. All except one, that is, and that is the prayer for forgiveness through Jesus Christ. Once salvation is settled (and I mean truly settled), God continues to punish us when we err, so that His Name is glorified and that we may be used by Him in His service. So that we can live by Him, and that we can better understand His ways.

Our own children may receive our punishment for bad behavior, but they are still ours by birth, and nothing can change that. In the same sort of way, but in the Spiritual realm, it is the same with our Father in Heaven. He may need to set us straight at times, but nothing will change the fact that we are His children due to the rebirth we have through our acceptance of Jesus.

We are now forever His children. Some are more behaved than others, but He is always there to receive us when we pray for forgiveness.

While I do not believe in unconditional eternal security, it is obvious to me from your post you do not believe in continuing in sin that grace would abound.

I, in fact, believe that there is one condition to eternal security: That we accept what Jesus has done for us on the Cross, and that we believe in Him for the remission of sin. Some will say "Hah! so you do believe in works!" Well, I guess that there is merit in saying that the act of accepting His sacrifice is a "work", but I think that is missing the point. Christ did the work for us, and that is what Grace is all about, not some sort of blanket of security to pick up and put down at will. We either accept Him or not.

Sure, we go through our struggles in life, but God is there for us, and I trust in that.

I also believe in "death bed" salvation, and that all (and that means ALL) who call on His name will be saved.

It sounds incredible, right? That a rapist or a murdering thief can claim the same home in Heaven that one who follows Christ his whole life can. But again, that is grace defined by real example. Christ died for all of us, and if murderers claim Him through faith and have true repentance in their hearts, they are just as washed as anyone else.

My concerns are for those that claim a salvation experience but live in some cases worse than many people that have never known Jesus.

This was a concern of Jesus, as well. He addressed this very thing when describing what will happen to some when they appeal to Him at the seat of judgement. He will say to many "depart from me, I never knew you", or the same meaning of such in similar words. Those that claim Christ without the true repentance of sin are fooling themselves and are in danger of losing it all by their lies. God sees through this, and Jesus will testify to the fact when they come before Him.

It is by this deception of the heart that many do continue in sin. I dare say that many do not have Christ in their hearts, but continue to live in such a manner where they feel that they are covered. Through this, much false doctrine is born and spread throughout the world. The path to destruction is wide, and many will walk the trail confident that they are good to go.

True repentance and acceptance of Christ will be the light that guides us in our lives. We know to follow it, for we have trusted in Him. Sometimes we stray, that much is true, but God is there to set us on the right way every time we ask.

We have the Spirit to guide us, and if we truly lay claim to Christ, we will follow Him as best we can. We do this not because we feel that we can add to what Christ has done, but because He has done what He has done. We love Him, because He first loved us.

I know it's kind of blurry to some, but there is a difference. We cannot add to our case by doing the right things, but we do the right things as a result of what Jesus has done for us. Our deeds are now influenced by the Spirit inside of us.

By the way, I see your a fellow tarheel. That is a real shame about the Panthers. I have nothing against Seattle and they certainly deserve to go to the Super Bowl, but I would have liked to have seen Carolina play better.

lol, and now, on to deeper matters!

I just looked up and noticed that you were from NC too.

Yes, it was a shame. They are a better team than what they showed in Seattle. It looked like all of the injuries, all of the road games, and all of the travel finally caught up with them. They simply just had a bad game at the wrong time. When it was all said and done, all they had left was Delhomme and Smith. Once it gets down to that, Seattle had to only defend one thing, and they did.

Oh well, they have enough to build on next year.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
