Kids and Scripture

All summer long we have felt like we were losing our teens to the world. They had no interest in the Word, complained about going to church and the fifteen year old was even getting quite outspoken about it should be his choice. The kids from church do not live in our neighborhood they were becoming more interested in the kids they had easy daily access to. Some of these kids have parents who partake in porn, heavy drinking and such. Ours are not allowed to go to their homes which has become a constant fight around here.

So all summer we have been praying that the children renew their interest in the Lord and his word. After prayer one night I went to bed and this idea just hit me. The kids are very competitive at this point in their lives. Pretty much God put a game in my head. The kids and I each pick one chapter of the Bible then we each come up with questions from that chapter. Saturday nights we all get together and dad plays the host who asks trivia questions of the three of us. Dad has gotten in the act and gets to make up a couple of questions of his own from each chapter. The winner who answers the most questions gets to pick a small thing from the christian book store as their prize that the other two have to pay for.

Of coarse at the beginning of the week we all have to say what book we are going to ask questions out of so all of us are studying three books a week. The kids have gotten very caught up in this to find the most obsure facts to trip me up. I ask easier questions because the kids always want music cd's and I have no problem paying for that. My daughter won last week and actually asked for a Bible dictionary, she thinks she is going to play hard ball. The kids have turned this into a riot. They have their dad dress up like a show host and play music that he has to run out in the room to like he's running onto the game stage. Their dad of coarse had to get into the act and go out and buy a timer and a you got it loud buzzer for wrong answers. So if any of you are struggling with getting your teen involved just try a little competition. This competiveness was driving us crazy before, now God has put it to work for Him. Just another example of how he can turn anything into something good.
