Hey guys, I have heard that all scripture is equally important?

So is geneology really as important as say the Ten Commandments?

I know it all originally came from the same source that being - God

Just wanting your take on this subject so please let me know what you think

Thanks for being so helpful, Ryan

The begats and begattin? :P

Seriously, I think it is as important, because the geneology tells us where we came from, but, more importantly, it tells us that Jesus is who he claims to be.

Have you ever heard the following from Chuch Missler? I'm not familiar with Hebrew so I can't verify it, but he says this:

Adam - Man

Seth - Appointed

Enosh - Mortal

Kenan - Sorrow

Mahalalel - The Blessed God

Jared - - Shall come down

Enoch - Teaching

Methuselah - His death shall bring

Lamech - The despairing

Noah - Rest, or comfort

Meaning, Man appointed mortal sorrow The blessed God shall come down teaching His death shall bring the despairing rest, or comfort.

Source

Anyway, the Lord put a lot of little jewels in scripture. They're all there for a reason. God gave us his word to teach us. It's Survival 101. Literally. :P

2Ti 3:16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

2Ti 3:17 That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.

genealogy was important up to the time of Jesus....

Rom 15:12 And again, Esaias saith, There shall be a root of Jesse, and he that shall rise to reign over the Gentiles; in him shall the Gentiles trust.

Isa 11:10 And in that day there shall be a root of Jesse, which shall stand for an ensign of the people; to it shall the Gentiles seek: and his rest shall be glorious.

after that it is not, as we are all, who are His, in Him..One Body...

1Co 15:45 And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit.

1Co 15:46 Howbeit that was not first which is spiritual, but that which is natural; and afterward that which is spiritual.

1Co 15:47 The first man is of the earth, earthy: the second man is the Lord from heaven.

1Co 15:48 As is the earthy, such are they also that are earthy: and as is the heavenly, such are they also that are heavenly.

1Co 15:49 And as we have borne the image of the earthy, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly.

The Bible is amazing in all of its history and no matter how many times I read it I feel as though I am reading a new book every time.....

I love it... :P

I always just took this to imply that all Scripture is valued highly and that there is no "filler" let's say :P

(* you were just using "geneology really as important as say the Ten Commandments" as an example correct?)

Blessings to you,

It is all important, but it is not all equally important.

The bible has one purpose, the Gospel of Jesus Christ, the Old Testament looks toward the cross, the New testament explains and looks back at the Cross. Without Jesus Christ and what He did on the Cross, without that the bible has no meaning and no importance. Genesis without Mathew is worthless and incomplete. I can be saved and know my salvation without the geneology of the Old Testament, I cannot have knowledge of being saved without the Gospel accounts in the New Testament.

It all starts and ends on the cross.

First of all thanks to all of those who gave there opinions everyone followed through with

great reasons as to why they believe what they said and thats what I was looking for.

(* you were just using "geneology really as important as say the Ten Commandments" as an example correct?)

Yes I was only using it as an example. Genealogies are not worthless nor boring to me, in fact they are interesting.

I know that they tell the story of the connection of Jesus Christ and that is very important in my religion.

Once I heard that "kings don't merely declare themselves but they must belong to a royal bloodline."

2Ti 3:16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

Thanks a lot for this verse Tah it has been a big help!

As it reminds me that all scripture has a specific purpose and isin't just there.

Although I am still unsure of the answer to my question your replies have been

much appreciated and have given me more things to consider and think about.

Thanks again for everything- Ryan

One way I look at it is to remove parts of the bible, when does our salvation leave? The genealogies certainly start pointing us there, and have a role to play, I don

If someone was left on an Island with no knowledge of our faith and we were told you could only give them one book of the bible, what would we do? Would we say well forget it, it is all or nothing, or would we find one? I think I could be satisfied to leave them the Gospel of John, or the book of Romans. But I would not leave them with just Genesis or the book of Revelation.

This is a very interesting question Smalcald :emot-hug:

If you don't mind I'm going to start a thread utilizing it

Blessings to you

Yes, the genealogy is as important as anything else. It shows fulfilment of o.t. prophecies.

No it is not as important as anything else is. The genealogies don't even come close to being as important as the Gospels. Alone they tell us nothing. If you only read Numbers or Job, or Genesis, and know nothing else and believe nothing else you will go to hell. In fact if you only read the Old Testament and know or believe nothing else you will go to hell. If you ONLY know the Gospel of John and believe the Gospel of John you will have eternal life. How could they be equally important? It is ridiculous to even say that.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
