Well Cats maybe this will get you unconfused.

Mat 2:1 Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem,

Mat 2:2 Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him.

Mat 2:3 When Herod the king had heard these things, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him.

Mat 2:13 And when they were departed, behold, the angel of the Lord appeareth to Joseph in a dream, saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and be thou there until I bring thee word: for Herod will seek the young child to destroy him.

That Herod might be troubled is understandable, but why all Jersulem ? Chuck Missler says that these wise men were known as something like 'King Makers'. And that they were most likely accompanied by a large army. That would get the attention of the entire city.

That still doesn't answer the question. I maintain the wise men went on to Egypt...

Herod was in Jerusalem and he and the inhabitants would have wondered who these travellers were...and been concerned.

They continued their trek until they found the holy child. I had heard, however...that some scripture validates that Jesus wasn't a newborn when they found him at last...but rather, he was a very small child, around 2 years old by then.

I'm just trying to recall from what I've heard...any scholars out there? Anybody else heard this also?

Matthew 2:16 Then Herod, when he saw that he was mocked of the wise men, was exceeding wroth, and sent forth, and slew all the children that were in Bethlehem, and in all the coasts thereof, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had diligently enquired of the wise men.

So they were in Bethlehem when the wise men came. Jesus was about two years old, and after the visit, joseph took the family to Egypt to hide from the wrath of Herod.

They could have been living in Nazareth and not Bethlehem at the time, but I have never heard anyone say they were in Egypt. If they were in Egypt the angel would not have told them to go Egypt (Mat. 2:13) and the child would not have been in danger before the wise men came to Herod.

They entered enemy territory and then purposely rendered themselves defenseless.

Thank you, IR....Clearly, he wasn't in Egypt...so that's cleared up for me...

I got my chronology correct now...but perhaps what I had heard was that Jesus wasn't an infant at that point...but a bit older, maybe a year or two old.
