This is just a question that's been raised in some other threads, so I thought I'd ask it directly.

Many people have said that the ordered, patterned nature of the world and the fabulous things in it are evidence enough that there is a God out there; other people have had strange or lucky experiences which have helped lead them to Christ. Still more have found that embracing a set moral code and finding a compassionate fellowship to help with their troubles has made all the difference in their lives. To my mind, though, while these are all powerful and valid conclusions and/or experiences which could point to the existence of a creator, they don't in and of themselves specify the Christian God. So my question is: what brought people here to Christianity, out of all the religions they might have embraced instead?

He did. I was searching other beliefs. He showed me who He is. He made it impossible for me to believe otherwise.

Great question.

When I was an atheist I researched many world religions. But of all those I researched only Christianity stood out as being unique. When I finally opened my heart and mind to God, and confessed the Lordship of Jesus Christ, I experienced a life-transforming event which simply cannot be described by words or proven with any observable evidence (Excepting the obvious change in my behavior and attitude before my friends).

As an atheist it could be said that I examined Christianity like a scientist might examine a glass of milk. I placed the "slide of faith" under the microscope in order to examine its components. But it was only when I drank the glass of milk that I experienced the reality of faith in Jesus Christ. As an unbeliever without faith I believed that I was rich in knowledge. But actually I was starved in my spirit. It was only when I experienced the filling of that "God-shaped vacuum" (Pascal) with the very life of God Himself that my hunger and thirst were quenched.

Hi secondeve,

That seems to be the question of the times doesn't it...?

Sadly for you though I can only say to you something that is really quite simple with no bells and whistles or fanfare...I'm sorry that I'm unable to give you a really enlightening answer to your question but it wasnt "what?", Led me to Christianity, but "WHO!" Led me..Christ himself. If Christ had NOT led me, then I would not BE a Christian at all. When asked, "What does Christianity offer you that nothing else can..?", the answer once again is simple...Christianity offers you Christ himself......Why out of all the religions would one choose Christianity...???

Because it WORKS...!!

Incidentally, my mother and father raised me as a Mormon, my mother was a Mormon for 26 years. I wasnt old enough to understand faith yet, so I was simply the son of Mormon parents. My mother left the Mormon church and surrendered her life to the Lordship of Jesus Christ (the Messiah), my father simply lost faith altogether, and to this day remains an agnostic. My mother in her faithfulness prayed for me for 19 years to be saved. Her prayer was answered in 1998 when I was 34 years old. Myself and my younger sister were called by the Lord in that same year. My brother, an older brother had given his life to Christ even before my mother did, so the only one left now to be saved is my father. I could not begin to explain to you the joy that my mother expressed when both my sister and I called her with the news that we had surrendered our lives to Christ and were born again. I can only guess that it was only a small portion of the joy that all the angels in heaven were experiencing for not just ONE sinner had come to repentance but TWO.....

My mother went to be with the Lord 2 years ago, she lost her battle with breast cancer. But God has assured me with a peace that I cannot even understand, that I have not lost her at all. I will see her again. God keeps his promises because "all of Gods promises are yes and amen." This was the word that surrounded my mothers celebration..(its not a funeral to go to be with the Lord..It's a celebration.) "Unless a grain of wheat falls into the ground and dies, there will be no harvest underneath these skies.." My mothers life and death, will and already has brought many to Christ. Not because of who SHE was, but who she was IN HIM. People who met my mother, met Christ.

Regards,

Ben.

Yes, Hope, and to choose to have faith in God. It's a conscious decision for me, making that choice to say to Jesus, "I choose to believe You".

Thanks for the responses so far, but I feel that I should define my question a little more. Why did Christianity make more sense than other religions? Did someone talk to you about it, did you read about it, did you know and decide to look into it more? Was there a particular event or moment which convinced you that you'd made the right decision? Thanks in advance :24:

Just to add to the question. What makes the spiritual experience in Christianity different from other religions?

I was a seeker of truth. Jesus spoke words of love and life, which to me made more sense than anything else I had encountered. I was all to familiar with all the evil in the world and was desparate to trust and believe in something. Jesus had all the right words that I needed to hear. There's still a lot in the bible that I don't understand, but there's a lot more in the world that i don't understand. I chose life. :24:

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
