Why does it seem as though Protestants speak so disrespectfully towards Mary who is Jesus's Mother?

No, we just know it's not ok to worship her, while she is to be respectpect, but it's Jesus to whose praise and prays should be directed at, Virgin Mary was Jesus's Terrenal Mother, but we worship Jesus in His Godly form, in which He has no mother.

Who does that? I respect the mother of Jesus, of course! She is a woman blessed to have been used in such a miraculous way by God!

I had a discussion about this today with a dear Catholic friend. I believe that Mary would roll over in her grave if she knew that so many millions of people throughout the ages had actually bowed to her image and prayed to her rather than her Son, Jesus, who died for us (and her sins also) and has been instituted by God as the sole Mediator between God and Man.

Mary is not to be adored in such a way as to be idolized. She is a dead lady, and her spirit lives with Christ just as millions of other believers do. She is no more saintly than any other believer.

But she is called blessed among women and rightly so!

Blessings! :emot-handshake:

I'm married to a Catholic and he believes that praying to anyone but God is not going to get you anywhere! Even though Steve is not a Christian he understands that while she is to be respected that praying to any so called saint is wrong. We had someone here once who was a Catholic that stated that he even prayed to his dead mother because she was closer to God then he was. I had many discussions with him and he was sure that as long as you did all your works the "church required of you, you would go to Heaven. I explained that it was not what we do but what the finished work of the cross has already done. While he believe in Jesus and His death and resurrection works were still a huge part of your salvation and with out them you were lost. Mary was chosen by God to bare our Savior, she was a good woman but still a sinner in need of a savior just like us. This person also believe that she had no sin which put her on the same level with Jesus. When I told him that she was a sinner just all us he became angry and left.

Sometimes I wonder, which is harder, preachin g a muslim, catholic, or atheist?

I don't hate catholic, but hate the fact that they basically put the church before God, and that is wrong, God should be first in everything.Period.

all of you have wonderful opinions and are correct, Jesus, the savior of the world is put first in all we do. as a catholic i would like to not defend but explain our belifs. we do not pray to saints, or mary. we pray to the Lord and we ask saints for interession. the logic is that since all souls who believe in the Lord never die ( John 3:16) that they are alive in heaven. since we hold that to be true we consider the saints avaible to pray for us as well, since no one is dead. if i ask mary for intersession it is similar to you asking a friend at church to pray with you. hopefully that clears up a lot. the same is true for the Holy Rosary. is is a meditative prayer that is again prayed to God not Mary. we all as christian brothers respect the imortant role that mary played in the life of Jesus. i see her as a role model. i do not put her before my God, but i love her as a woman who gave her eveything in the service of our Lord.

another thing that i would like to explain for a catholic perspective is the idea that somone posted about Mary not REALLY being the mother of Jesus because He IS God. Jesus was 100% God and 100% man (i realize that is 200% but come on, it is Jesus! He can do that!) mary was his earthly mother. we are the children of the Father. we are not gods.....she was his mother....and we do not hold her as a God.

unfortunately a lot of people have missunderstandings about the Church (many catholics included) we do not put the church before God but instead belive that GOD IS THE CHURCH....that is to say that the Church is our extension of God on the earth. the people make up the church and we are the body of Christ.

God bless and keep you all. Each one of you are special.

Welcome to Worthy, catholicbsg!

I just need to say one thing here, and that is that Jesus is the only intercessor in heaven! The saints who have gone before us do not hear us, nor do they even desire that, for they are gazing upon the face of God! To ask anyone but the Mediator Himself to speak to God the Father is to deny who Jesus really is, and is actually committing idolatry. The same thing goes for the rosary beads...they are not necessary, and are rather superfluous to our daily prayertime with God. We are intercessors as well--ask someone alive to pray with you, to intercede for you!

Blessings! :emot-handshake:

It's religion! Just like in Jesus' time on earth, He had to deal with the Pharisees, we deal with religion. Jesus still loves them and desires for them to know the truth. Let's remember we are the light and not to condemn by to sow seeds of the Word!! Amen?

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Daniel: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 3

      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this study, I'll be focusing on Daniel and his picture of the resurrection and its connection with Yeshua (Jesus).

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
