My wife and I are looking at bibles today. I would like advice on a study guide bible. Which do you prefer and why? Mymom suggests the Open bible, my inlaws suggest life application, I've had thompson chain reference for years. I'm looking also at blackaby and scofield.

I have a expositers study bible.you can only get it from jimmy swaggart ministrys.it is the kjv with verse by verse explantions. like it because the interpation is right with the verse and youdon't have to have a bible,concordes,and dictionary ant the same time.its already there.he usally shows it on sunday morings on spike

Most "Study Bibles" incorporate a particular theology into their notes. I don't recommend this for your main study bible, so...the best Study Bible is called the Inductive Study Bible. There are still the useful additions of the maps, outline of the temple and that sort of thing, bu t you will not find ANY notes which are particular to one theology over another. You have to decide this yourself...and the person who came up with the concept shows you a very very indepth method of Bible study. I recommend it.

A couple of my small group members use MacArthur ( I believe that's the one) study Bible. It is based on the NKJ version. I can't tell you how it is myself as I can't afford my own copy, but they really like it.

I love the bible I use...it's the Spirit-Filled Life Bible! Excellent. One of our pastors uses it. I find it very, very enlightening with all the Word Helps and other helps.

Skipping the clear KJO argument...

McArthur is definately biased

How so? This isn't an argument, but a question, as I don't have much experience with McArthur, just that members of my group use that Bible. Right now I use an ESV Bible, and use PC Study Bible or E-Sword for study notes. Maybe this is the best way, to not always have study notes before me but only on my computer. Makes for a lighter Bible too. :21:

And by the way, bias isn't necessarily a bad thing. I am biased- for Christ, for God's Word. There is no other way to Heaven and no better way to live our life than through and for God. Any who are saved are biased toward the same belief, so bias can be good as well as bad.

I would say an NASB simply because it is more accurate in terms of relating what the Greek means.

As for study Bibles, Thompson Chain is going to get you the most.

I have used the NASB Ryrie Study Bible as well as the Thompson. A new version I am really liking is the Holeman. It retains faithfulness to the languages that is characteristic of the NASB and adds readability

I love my KJV Thompson's chain. I also sometimes pull out my hubbys Life Application Bible. Online I used e-Sword. It's so easy to use and I have several versions on here for study purposes.

      I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

      For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

      2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices. 

      So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

      Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end. 
      Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house. 

      Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

      Shalom everyone,

      As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

      Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
      Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

      So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
