There is nothing to dance around, for the Bible believer.

I provided God's Word which addresses the issue

Not yet! Most of the refs. were stupid in this context, frankly. Do try again- though I think you will search in vain.

Now God's Word is "stupid"?

That looks extremely malicious, after I deliberately included the words 'in this context'. Do explain.

You have provided no arguments, not even bad ones, to dispute the verses.

You have provided merely a list of verses, with no exegesis whatever. A laundry list would have been as useful. If you cannot exegete your choice of verses, then it can be assumed that your case falls.

The verses I supplied speak for themselves. Of course you have to read them.

This is a verse that modern day evangelicals, the same ones who hate to acknowledge true church authority, must tap dance around and twist. Not only does the verse point to the doctrine of confession and absolution through the church but also to church authority with regard to discipline of the unrepentant member.

While all sin was dealt with at the cross it pleases God to bring specific forgiveness through confession of those sins by true believers. For if we say we have no sin we make God out to be a liar. We are to confess these sins to one another. That is true not only for the worst unbeliever but also for the most pious Christian. Forgiveness of sin is applied through the means of grace, God's Word and His sacraments. Yet that is still somewhat different since those applications of forgiveness are completed without the synergisic activity of the sinner.

At any rate, the denial of the powers vested in His church by its founder, Jesus, continues to evolve even to the point that we now see many who have rejected the church altogether as they gather in their own little cocoons at home, free from the worry of real accountibility that a legitimate church provides. Unfortunately they have also removed themselves from another function of the true church, and that is the power to bind and loosen, to hear their confession and to absolve their sin.

Indeed they do, but not to your purpose in any way whatever! :emot-wave: If that is the best that catholicism can do, it is a complete absurdity.

Horizon, I think its important to note that when I say modern evangelicals are generally anti-Catholic I mean to say that they usually reject any practice of the Roman Catholic church, even legitimate ones.

The RCC has no legitimate practices, because its whole purpose is to destroy Christianity, as it always has been. The Archbishop of Canterbury once described the RCC as 'the seat of AntiChrist'. That was an exaggeration, but nothing has happened since the Reformation to change that approximate pov.

I assume you mean Catholicism. Your bias has completely blinded you. I am certainly not Roman Catholic. This is another example of a biblical teaching that evangelicals reject just because the Catholics do it.

Recall a discussion on here a few weeks ago where many of them even rejected the idea of confession itself as part of the church liturgy.

I am not sure exactly what was said in the thread you are mentioning, but this is how I feel about confession of sins. I have no problem with the Biblical concept of confessing sins one to another, but in this day, one had better be careful who they share their secrets with because many in the church will start gossiping about it as soon as they have the story. I believe that when we sin, we should confess that sin to the Father in heaven to receive forgiveness, and that we need no earthly go-between like a Priest. Jesus is our high priest, so if anything, he is our go-between with the Father. I don't feel the need to go into a confessional.

I don't think its any big secret to say you are a sinner in thought word and deed. If you can't confess that publicly then I think it would also be hard or even meaningless to confess Christ as your Savior publicly.

sw

I think that is one of the most ludicrous statement I have seen posted at Worthy Chat, and I have seem some hum dingers. :emot-wave:

Care to elaborate?

sw

They are two completely differen't issues. Confession of sins to one another has nothing to do with confessing faith in Christ. The comparison doesn't fit, even if you "think" they do.

The point is if one cannot confess they are a sinner then what is the point of confessing a Savior? If one is not a sinner there is no need for the Savior. Shooting from the hip with your silly comment about my point being ludicrious saps your credibility as a poster.

Thanks for proving my point about anti-Catholic bias. To say the RCC has absolutely no legitimate practices is exactly what I knew you would ultimately say.

I continue to say it was ludicrous, and given for shock value. There is no comparison between confessing one's sins to another and confessing Christ. Everyone that comes to Jesus does so as a sinner in need of a savior. Everyone is aware of that. It has nothing to do with the need to confess individual sins to other Christians.

If you see no correlation to acknowledging sin and confessing Christ then you miss the point of Christ's gospel. To say it was given for "shock value" is ignorant and without merit.

I meant what I wrote.

Your bias has completely blinded you.

Excuse my bias against those who persecute the church. I'm funny like that.

I am certainly not Roman Catholic.

That's why I wrote 'catholic'. Did that infuriate you? Like 'in this context'?

This is another example of a biblical teaching that evangelicals reject just because the Catholics do it.

:24: Nothing so convenient; it's because they come up with amazing posts like #17!

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
