Hello all, I have been reading this post thread. First I would like to say I see one person with a very humble spirit. I say God bless you, keep that spirit . I also noticed one person with a proud spirit. To him I would say the Bible says to be gentle unto all men, and that includes women. You see that you have caused hurt already to a tender person.

Now back on the subject. I have spoken in tongues for about forty years. I have learned quite a bit from the Bible and from experience. But I am sure no expert. Tongues were not given on the day of Pentecost for people to understand. Paul knew Hebrew, so did all the other people present. He spoke their language. It was a sign as it still is. There are different kinds of tongues. One kind when a person receives the Holy Ghost, another the gift of divers tongues(different languages) Then there is singing in tongues. By making them all one, there comes confusion.

Have a whole new life!

1Cr 14:21 In the law it is written, With [men of] other tongues and other lips will I speak unto this people; and yet for all that will they not hear me, saith the Lord.

1Cr 14:22 Wherefore tongues are for a sign, not to them that believe, but to them that believe not: but prophesying [serveth] not for them that believe not, but for them which believe.

Hi Godslove,

I too believe they are real.

I like your saying there, but I really like the way my Pastor said it should actually read:

God said it!

That setlles it! :o:t2::o

Makes no difference if one believes it or not God said it and that settles it.

Hello,

It's me cleaninglady. The one who started this subject. I lost it for a while and now I'm back. I want to tell everyone why I even asked my question in the first place. I am from a totally- WE DO NOT BELIEVE IN TONGUES BACKGROUND- One day in my own personal prayer time- I began to speak in tongues. I was not trying and it freaked me out a bit. To make a long story short I ended up changing to a church that believes in the 'gifts of the spirit' and who does them in a biblical way.

I can see from all of the response that many Christains are confused on this subject. That helps me a little. I do believe they are real. I have spoken in them only a handful of times. I do see the push in a way for people to speak in them at church- like you are more holy or something. I went into my own prayer time like a brat saying _God give me tongues.

Well, I already have learned that tongues are not what is important. Jesus is and God. Allowing God's Holy Spirit to move you in tongues is biblical.

But as everything in the Christian walk that focus is first and foremost on Jesus Christ. So, whichever way you swing- believe in them or not- Keep your eye on the prize! That's what I have learned.

Although I do not speak in "tongues", I have learned during study that it should be translated as languages. In Acts 2:6 on the Day of Pentecost "....they were each one hearing them speak in his own language" - exact dialect.

Kevin,

I want to go on record as saying I love all my tongue talking brothers and sisters, and cant wait until I also have the gift manifested in me as well.

But until that day I still count myself very much blessed and very much baptised into the body of Christ by the very same Spirit that distributes this wonderful gift to the body.

I must agree that you are a brother in the Lord. There is no doubt about that. I am not arguing with you over this brother as you are very much baptized into the body of Christ by the Holy Spirit, the self same Spirit that gives all the gifts. Please don't take this wrong and I will add though that there is a difference in being baptized into the body of Christ and being Baptized in the Holy Spirit. I am glad you are seeking Kevin.

God bless you brother

Hi Dove,

I respect where you are coming from and I ask you the same, and that is not to get mad at what I am about to post, I mean it in the spirit of love and for the purpose of seking the truth.

But to say that there are two different baptisms is to go contrary to scripture, from what I see. This is where I have my bigger problem of understanding the Pentecostal and Charismatic movements.

1Cor 12:13 "for by one Spirit were we all baptised into one body..."

And in Ephesians 4:4-6

"There is one body, and one Spitit, even as ye are in one hope of your calling;

One Lord, one faith, one baptism,

One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all"

Paul is showing here that all believers have recieved the baptism of the Holy Spirit, for there is only one baptism,

Paul is showing that no one was left out of this wonderful gift from God. Notice in verse 6 That Paul points out that God is in us all.

Now going back to 1 Cor chapter 12 Paul is pointing out that there are different manifestations but they are all by the same Spirit

Vs 6 " but the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit.

Verse 7 "For to one is given....." The Holy Spirit distribute to each one as He wills, different manifestations of the same gift that everyone recieves (Eph 4:6 --And in you all) Which is the Holy Spirit.

All do not prophecy, all do not teach, all do not speak in tongues, all do not interpret, but the one thing we all have in common is the Holy Spirit of God.

Not every one who has been baptised in the Holy Spirit speaks in tongues, nor is there scripture that says that it is so. The book of acts is evidence of this.

Again I donot question the tongues as being a legitimate manifestation of the Holy Spirit, but not all who are baptised with the Holy Spirit are going to recieve this manifestation.

And I only see where there is one baptism with the Spirit and not two seperate baptisms, but I am willing by the show of scripture to reconsider my stand on this issue.

I pray to the Father for this gift to be manifested in me as well, but as of yet and as always will be, His grace is sufficient for me. We walk by faith not by sight, and though I covet this wonderful manifestation of the Spirit, I am content with what God gives me.

From those to whom I speak with, when they speak in tongues, it is a very uplifting experience for the individual and one in my eyes that cannot be denied as genuine, for the scriptures say it is so.

I have actualy spoke years ago while driving in my car, while in prayer, but it was only brief for, I stopped speaking wondering what was happening (I was a fairly new Christian) and have never had that experience since. that was about 15or more years ago. It was an experience I will never forget, I was in wonder at what happened more than understanding what happened,

for I was attending a baptist church, and the baptist, at least this church, just dont believe they are a manifestation of the Spirit in these last days. I would sure like the experience again now that my mind is fruitful of what it is.

Well God bless and I look forward to your reply. And again I ask for your patience, I am not here to argue or to deny the gift, but to rightly divide the word of the truth to recieve a better understanding of what the Spirit is saying to the church.

In Jesus

Kevin

Sorry that I am just now seeing this post. I didn't mean to not answer you.

Yes there is only Baptism. But that is not the Baptism in water that is of John the Baptist for remission of sins. We are to be baptized in water for the remission of our sins.

Jesus never baptized anyone in water. The true baptism is in the Holy Spirit. That is the baptism that Jesus baptizes us with. The reason tongues are so associated with the Baptism of the Holy Spirit is because of the disciples in the upper room when they received the Holy Spirit they also spoke in tongues.

Mark 1:1-8

Verse 8: John said, "I indeed have baptized you with water: but he [speaking of Jesus] shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost [spirit].

Notice that there are differences in tongues.

One tongue is to edify us. Building up ourselves in our most holy faith praying in the Holy Spirit (Jude). The Spririt prayers for us because we don't know how to pray. This is what I call a prayer language. This is a prayer that the Holy Spirit prays for me while I am in prayer. Ok what I am trying to say is have you ever prayed so much in English and didn't have the words to pray anymore? Have you ever been so deep in prayer that you knew you needed to pray more but didn't know how? That is where the prayer language comes in. Have you ever been praying and prayed so hard that it felt like your tongue was getting mixed up while in prayer? Well, if this is the case, that is the Holy Spirit trying to pray for you, just let him have your tongue and your voice. The tongue is an unruly thing and when we give our tongue to God we have given the most unruly part of our body to God. Does that make sense? I believe this prayer language is for everyone because of what Jude says.

The other tongue is to edify the church. This tongue is to be spoken in the church with 2 or 3 interpreters. If there are not interpreters then it is not a true message of God. It is just someone getting over zealous.

It is late here so I may not have fully answered this question. If you have any other or I didn't make sense I will try to watch this post more carefully and will answer you or you can PM me. I will be happy to talk to you at length about this. You will not upset me. I know you are seeking and the only way to seek is to pray and ask questions.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
