I've always heard you must put on the armor of God daily, like in Ephesians 6. How exactly do we put it on?

I've always wondered, but kind of felt silly to ask.

Billie-In order to put on the Whole Armor of God it is necessary to understand that we cannot just wear one piece of it. It must be worn complete or" whole". So it does no good to have one piece without all the others because it leaves us vunerable to the enemy. We also are required to have a "Good Heart" before we don it and also spiritual strength and courage. In order to effectively use this armor we must be strong in the Lord because we do not have sufficient strength of our own to use it properly. Hope this helps and God Bless my friend

I believe that we should meditate on what each part of the armour means - how it will assist or keep us focussed in our battles each day. We should be clear - through repeated meditation - about what this means. You may find different understanding coming to you as you continue to meditate on each item.

I don't think it would go amiss to go through the physical motions if it provides another avenue of learning. I saw a FAithville episode once where a character "put on" his invisible helmet of salvation. That twigged with me - I could see that adding to the understanding. Using the body to learn is helpful for kinesthetic learners - as I am.

I assume you were looking for a practical approach to this question.

I also agree with darski on this in order to train myself to "let go" of things I had to resort to using a garbage bag and physically "stuffing " my sin or problem in it and taping it shut as rediculous as this may sound it worked. God Bless

Hi Billie :whistling:

I use to wonder the same thing... everyone tells you to put on the armor, but they never tell you how.... we put it on by faith...

basically everything we do in our christian walk is done by faith ...trusting God...we are saved by faith....etc the good part is that we dont need a lot of faith. We just need a tiny bit of it

...I hope that helped some

I just found out today from floatingaxe, this is what he/she wrote:

Place the helmet of Salvation on your head, because your mind is proteced:

the Breastplate of Righteousness that protects your heart and emotions; the belt

of Truth, which cinches you in and holds you up against lies;

the boots of Peace, so that you will take peace with you wherever you go, and that peace

will erupt in your presence; the shield of Faith, big enough to cover your whole body, protects

you from anything the devil throws at you, enables you to offer protection to you brothers in

Christ as well, the enemy can run right over it and you will remain intact; the sword of the Spirit, the only

offensive weapon you own, where you can inflict damage on the enemy, cutting him to shreds with

the Word of God, and lastly axe added the clock of zeal, mentioned in Isaiah 59:17, the cloak will

enable you to run with zeal into battle, and scattering all enemies beforeyou, so there will be

none behind you.

I hope that I quoted this right, I wrote in down fast. But I got it from floatingaxe, it is awesome!!!!!!

in the text of Ephesians 6 basically putting on the armor is equipping ourselves with the gospel from head to toe so that we will be protected against the onslaughts of the enemy within our day. So in the spiritual realm we will be on guard and be protected by the armor God has given to us in order to win the good fight of faith. As we are in a spiritual battle and our weapons are not carnal weapons but spiritual weapons that are mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds.

Each day we all have certain battles we go through. Sometimes the devil attacks our minds with bad thoughts. Sometimes the devil picks a fight with us using someone close to us in order to get us to sin with out tongues in anger. Sometimes he comes to try and steal our faith by different circumstances that get us down and depressed. Sometimes the devil come to steal the word of God from our hearts. Each day the devil and his minions in the spiritual realm tries to cause us to fall in our faith in order that we will just give up and quit on God.

But if we have on the armor then we are able to fight these things in the way God has prescribed to us in Ephesians 6 in the spiritual battle. If our battle were in the natural we could just lay the person causing us the trouble out on the ground with a baseball bat and end of fight. but it is not a natural battle but a spiritual one as there is something more that is causing a person in the natural to trouble and that is found in Ephesians 6:12 being demonic spirits that are behind the fuses and things that come at us from day to day.

having our loins girt about with truth is having the truths of the word of God hidden inside of us so that we will not sin against God this will protect you as the word David said has he hid in his heart that he might not sin against God the word is a lamp unto my feet it is the truths in the knowledge of the word that will protect you and keep you from sinning against God thus Satan cannot gain a foothold in your life he cannot touch you as you are protected as your loins are girt about with truth.

1 Peter 1:13

We are to have on the breastplate of righteousness we do this by doing what is right in the eyes of God from our hearts from a spirit of sincerity and truth. We remain humble and faithful at doing what is acceptable and right in the eyes of God this will protect us from being corrupted by the world.

Isaiah 59:17-18

We are to have our feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace as we are to be a ready witness to go with the gospel message of reconciliation as it tells us in 2 Corinthians 5 that we have the ministry of reconciliation and the word or message of reconciliation to give to the world and that is that God was in Christ reconciling the world back to Him and that is the gospel that will bring peace to a sin sick soul.

Isaiah 52:7 ; Romans 10:15

We are to above all else it says to take the shield of faith as this will fend off all the things the devil throws at us before it hit us at all it will stop all the fiery darts that are thrown at us. And a fiery dart back then was a deadly thing if it hit you as the flame within the dart would not go out but literally burn you from the inside out then you died from it. We must protect ourselves by using our faith it is our faith that will stop these darts from hitting us that those in this world whom are wicked will absolutely throw at you with their persecution because of your faith in Christ being full of faith and staying built up in the Lord will stop us from getting hurt by persecution of the wicked.

1 John 5:4

we are to put on the helmet of salvation which is the hope that is within the gospel we are to renew our minds with the word of God and let it teach us to deny ungodliness and worldly lusts as we are looking forward to that blessed hope the glorious appearing of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

Titus 2:11-15 ; 1 Thessalonians 5:8

we are to take the sword of the Spirit which is the blessed word of God we can defeat the enemy by the gospel of Jesus Christ for it is the power of God unto salvation. There is power in the word when it is proclaim outwardly. The enemies kingdom can literally be torn down and the kingdom of light go up for it will not come back void.

Hebrews 4:12

praying always having a spirit of prayer and supplications as this builds us up and keeps us in constant contact with God and breaks down barriers that nothing else can. As God will then intervene and help us and not we ourselves when we have done all we could do and just stood our ground. Prayer is most powerful as we are to pray and supplicate with watchings which is sleeplessness we fight our sleep in order to pray as Paul said he was in fasting and watchings often. But we are to pray fervently for the saints. And God will move for us because is something we all can do ourselves.

But it is something we do on behalf of the other saints for God to intervene on their behalf when they are in trouble God will hear our pleas and petitions we bring before him. Prayer will keep us from temptations also.

Luke 18:1 ; Matthew 26:41 ; Philippians 1:4

hope this helps some or at least this is my opinion of how we are to put on the armor of God. I hope you will read scriptural references I have added.

The offensive weapon is the sword of the spirit which is The Word Of God.

Eph 6:17And take THE HELMET OF SALVATION, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

We are stronger with the Word in our hearts and on our tongues than without it.

We "remain" strong with the word of God in our hearts and on our tongues as we are praying the very will of God and His will will come to pass it will not fail us in our trials and tribulations of this life.

Praying the word and confessing the word are most powerful things to do as a believer but a humble spirit bowed seeking the will of God and praying the will and word of God will avail much as the prayer of a righteous man "availeth" much.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
