Hardcore Christian Music, whats your opinion on it?

Music has always been a passion of mine. I did not come to knowing the Lord until 93ish. I did not give up secular music until about 1999. It was a very hard transition for me, but I felt that the secular music dragged me down. Even if it didnt include foul words, the content was normally based on wordly accepted things, not of God. SOOOO I turned to Christian music.

I am SOOOO Thankful for the variety in Christian music, the talent of the many artists and their love and compassion to reach the world with God's love and to help the hurting Christians out there. AND to help us as we praise the Lord of all creation! I love all types of Christian music from Hard rock, to contemporary, praise and worship to Hip hop and even some gospel.

I have been to so many concerts where maybe its a screamo artist that was not appealing to me, or someone more mellow than my taste enjoys. But a singer gets up there and opens his Bible and shares w/ the audience about how he overcame a drug addiction (Day of Fire), or overcame a suicide thought when he was younger and how he'll stay til whatever hour it takes to talk to each person in the audience that needs help (like Seventh Day Slumber), or even that they grew up in the church, yet didn't know how to have a real relationship w/ Christ until older (newsboys). Then there are bands like Kutless, Casting Crowns and Disciple who's lyrics glorify our Savior so deeply they can bring me to tears. I also am VERY Thankful for bands who are strong enough to head into the secular music arena and share God's words to an uncaring people...that takes guts. (Skillet, POD, Switchfoot).

How can people judge that this gift and talent is not of the Lord?!? I've stayed and met many band members after shows, and they are always humble and gracious and give the Lord ALL the glory and praise.

It is not Christian at all.

God is not pleased.

Christians should avoid it at all costs.

Throw away what you have of it.... burn it even.

I have heard and seen some hard metal groups that are so called christian and I can't tell the difference from them and the ones of the world. I don't like either but that is just my opinion.

I feel the same way, There is a fine line between good and evil. We are not to imitate the world in all we do and say. The bible says to come out and be separate. 2 Cor. 6:17 - Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you. We are to glorify God with holiness. Col. 2: 8 says Beware lest any man rob you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the principles of the world, and not ater Christ. Our music should also be the same, holy and pleasing, glorifying God. I think Hard core music labeled christian rock is a deception. We can reach the young people with music that is honoring Christ in the manner which the Lord would have us to play it. We are new creatures in Christ, we need to die to self daily. YSIC Littlelite

This music mentioned here, is it love songs or war marches?

I see a common theme here....SHOUT!

Who is anyone to say what type of music is pleasing to God?

It is not the instrument or the volume.. it is the HEART behind the worship. Worship in spirit and truth.

Yes, we are to make a joyful noise unto the Lord, Sing, and praise him, shout, make melody to the Lord, we can do this in a Godly way, we do not have to imitate the world, sometimes scripture is taken out of context. It sounds to me like allmylove4u does not see beyond what has been said. Yes, legalism is a deadly disease, but remember God will not be mocked. YSIC Littlelite.

I have been struggling with this topic since I've come to Cali, helping these teens that listen to all sorts of "Christian Music".... and i always come back to this......from a mile away can u tell if it is a Rock concert or a "Christian Rock" concert?

And does it realy Glorify God or flesh? Nothing wrong with entertainment, but to call it "Christian" I think is decietful, do we take porn and turn it into "Christian Porn"? Or gambling into "Christian Gambling"? Be honest with yourself and ask yourself do i listen to it to Glorify God or because i like it, and its close to what i listened to before i got saved! Then fine listen to it if u like it but dont say its beacuse it Glorifies God, because inreality u listen to it for your self pleasure!!!!

You really can't make a parallel between porn and CCM or hardcore CM, because porn is innately sinful, whereas music is not. The contents of the music determine its morality. A more appropriate parallel is "Christian Literature" or "Christian Art", not porno or gambling. You can't make a comparison between apples and oranges.

uh, what does a christian look like?

No offense but...unless you can point out specifics and say how they contradict scripture your treading on dangerous ground theologically with a statement like this.

Now, I have seen some supposedly Christian bands who were overtly sexual...which is the opposite of modest, which is a violation of scripture....

Oh but i can parallel porn and gambling with music, because like i said before.... it is for entertainment...and is addicting like porno and gambling. Yes addicting.....I was addicted to music!

There is way more to it than just words.... it goes to the soul!

Anyway, I knew i wouldn't be popular with this opinion...ahhh well!!!
