What IF the prodical son became the next multi-tycoon invester with his dad's money; would he have still come home or home just for the visit to show off his new found wealth?

Don't understand your mindset ray, :)

but the word says,

Luke 15:14-16 "And when he had spent all, there arose a mighty famine in that land and he began to be in want. And he went and joined himself to a citizen of that country and he sent him into his fields to feed swine. And he would fain have filled his belly with the husks that the swine did eat and no man gave unto him."

Now it really wouldn't have mattered I don't think if he became rich like you say because the fact would still remain that the particular land that the prodical was living in was in a "Mighty Famine" and nobody was going to give their goods away lest they themselves in this mighty famine wouldn't survive themselves. That was a fact in the land that the prodigal was dwelling in. His money wouldn't have done him any good as their wasn't any goods to buy if he had all the wealth like you say.

But the fact is the prodigal spent all his money and to top it off there was a mighty famine that hit the land where he was living and he began to be in want. So he goes and joins himself with a man of the country and the man he was working for sent him out to the fields to feed his swine. And the prodigal was so hungry that he desired even to eats the slope of the pigs he was feeding them cause nobody in the land gave him any food because of the mighty famine.

Then it says in

Luke 15:17-19 "And when he came to himself he said How many hired servants of my father's have bread enough and to spare and I perish with hunger I will arise and go to my father and will say unto him Father I have sinned against heaven and before thee And am no more worthy to be called thy son make me as one of thy hired servants."

You see ray it doesn't matter in this life if one is rich or has little to nothing we all like the prodigcal son have to do what it says in the first part of verse 17 "AND WHEN HE CAME TO HIMSELF" we all have to come to our senses and realize our need and where it is that only our need can be meet. As this prodigcal comes to his senses and realizes that his own father had many hired servants and all of his father's hired servants had plenty to eat and to spare but he himself was a hired servant now in a different land that is in a time of famine and he has nothing to eat and nobody want give him nothing as they have nothing to spare in the famine for him.

So he says, after he comes to his senses "I will arise and go to my father and will say unto him" what we all must say when we come to our Heavenly Father "Father I have sinned against heaven and before thee." None of us is worthy to be called sons of God but God forgives us though we sin against Him as the prodigcal did going astray and don't cast us away. but the prodigal son comes humbly before his father and tells him that he was no longer worthy to be his son for him to make him as one of his hired servants.

But the father didn't take his sonship away but took him back in and give him a ring and a robe and made a feast for him celebrating the fact that his son was dead and now is alive again.

You see it does not matter if one is rich or poor our needs are meet at the father's house. And when we go astray if we come to our senses and return with true repentance our Father in heaven will take us in His embrace and is anxiously awaiting us to come down the road that leads home.

You should read the story of the "Rich Fool" if you want a story to read about a rich man found in

Luke 12:13-21

Since it was a parable (story) the "What if" does not really make a ton of sense here. Jesus was telling the story to make a point about God's outrageous grace.

I am aware of the story and it is one my favorite stories in the Bible. I have not missed the point. I'm just currious about the what IF factor?

What If Jesus called 10,000 angles while on the cross? He could have but didn't. We even sing a hym about this calling on the 10,000 angels.

What IF is something we as Christians get hung up on a lot. I have recently started hearing a lot of sermons on what IF factor.

What If God created a rock he could not lift?

What IF this person vs that person got elected to office; would we be fighting in Iraq?

What IF Jesus obeyed some of the laws and did not speak to women at the well?

What would happen IF I choose not to repeant of my sins?

IF I did repeant what would happen?

There are a lot of what IF's in life and some deserve an answer and some don't.

What IF Ted Haggared, The Colorodo Evanglist, never got caught for soliciting sex from a male escourt?

What IF I won the lottery? What should I do with all that money?

What IF I died today? would you go to heaven?

Nicely put...i also agree that if you start to question the Bible and put what if's in there, you could find yourself in trouble very soon.

There's nothing wrong with questions, ray. My mom always says that questions are a sign of an intelligent mind. Someone who shys away from questions, may be afraid of the answers they might find. And, we know that we have nothing to fear from our faith for we stand on a firm foundation.

What if the Prodigal made a mint? One possibility: He may never have come home.

Often God uses difficult, even seemingly impossible situations in our lives to help us turn back to Him. Just today I was speaking to a friend about how to explain to someone why God allows terrible things to happen. He shared with me that it was the murder of his own mother that brought him back to God.

So, who knows, maybe the Prodigal would have come back eventually just because he missed his family and the love that awaited him there. But maybe he needed to go thru the desperation to make him return to his father for help.

btw...what I really love about this parable is the verse: "While he was still a long way off, his father caught sight of him, and was filled with compassion. He ran to his son, embraced him and kissed him. " (Luke 15: 20)

It shows that his father was watching for his return.... and he RAN to meet him.

God RUNS to meet us when we take a few steps toward Him. How awesome is that!?????!!?????

Great question, ray.

Peace,

Fiosh

i understand what it is like to wonder what if being a writer and I don't think everyone should make a big deal out of it. Ray was just asking a question. No need to go on the defensive.

Ray,

Since it was a story Jesus told and it had a point, then that means it would have turned out the same way. had he become rich then he would have lost it sometime in the furure. I admire your imagination though it is a pretty good what if question.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
