Some people believe a "gap" theory
.

The gap theory holds to a previous creation that was corrupted when Satan tried to overthrow God. Many place the war in heaven as having taken place at that time. Also, many have tried to harmonize the Bible with evolution by saying that such a gap would account for an old earth and all lthe fossils.Allegedly, this occured between Genesis 1:1 and 1:2. As the story goes, God destroyed that world and the creation account we read of from verse 2 and following is basically a recreation of what God destroyed.

The major flaw in that theory is the origin of sin. The Bible does not trace sin and death back before the fall of Adam. Death in our universe is a product of Adam's sin. That is why all creation groans for the day of redemption according to Romans 8. If there were a previous earth that God had to destroy, then sin would have been present prior to Adam and would have mentioned in Scripture. That would seriously torpedo what Paul wrote in Romans 5 about sin coming through one man, Adam. On that basis, I cannot personally accept the gap theory.

Hi Calamity and shiloh357

I have heard about "gap theory" before but I never knew what it was thanks for giving me some knowledge of it. I believe the universe was created when it was created

The gap theory holds to a previous creation that was corrupted when Satan tried to overthrow God. Many place the war in heaven as having taken place at that time.

One look at the book of job would dispel the theory that satan and his angels where dispelled from heaven before Job. I feel this rebellion occurred during the time of Jesus. But before that satan was contending with God trying to demonstrate he was Gods equal.

Paul wrote in Romans 5 about sin coming through one man, Adam.

Romans 5: 12

12 Therefore, just as through one man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men, because all sinned

Shiloh, it says to me that through adam sin entered the world. That is that sin existed before adam but it entered into the universe through adam. To my thinking Gods creation (the universe) was perfect until satan deceived adam and eve.

Now, this is something I've also wondered about. Satan is our 'accuser', now, isn't he? So, does he still have limited access to accuse us, like he was doing in Job, or does he do it some other way?

I think he does. I also think that he really tries to play on your conscience. You ever had that feeling that you have let God down and you don't even want to look at yourself in the mirror? That is the condemnation that Satan uses against you. I think that Satan accuses you to yourself. He tries to make people believe that they have let God down so many times, or in such a way, that God would not forgive them.

That is why we must confess our sins to God on a regular basis. When you sin, don't run from God; run to Him.

The gap theory is something I stumbled on once, and really just blew it off without going to far into it. It doesn't fit with Genesis and is wrong. But thanks for the extra info. A couple of interesting questions come up in all of this. Sin did enter the world through Adam, but did sin exist in heaven before the fall of Adam. As we know it was in heaven that Satan sold his wares, or in our language ran around and gossiped about God and started a rebellion. But heaven isn't the world, it's heaven. Does anyone have a way to put together a time frame on this, which came first Satan's rebellion in heaven or Adams fall.

It is also my understanding because of Revelations chapter 12 that at the time of Christ's death Satan and all his followers were tossed out of heaven to the earth. So wouldn't this mean that Satan no longer has access to accuse us before God's throne?

Revelations 12:12 also shows us that heaven and earth are two totally different places. Therefore refoice, you heavens and you who dwell in them! But woe to the earth and the sea. I'm referring to that because through Adam sin entered this world but could it be possible Satan was already committing sin in heaven before that in his rebellion? I'm sure there's a way to put this time frame together but I'm not finding it. Anyone else?

In Yeshua's love

Luke 10

17 Then the seventy[5] returned with joy, saying, "Lord, even the demons are subject to us in Your name."

18And He said to them, "I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven. 19Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you. 20Nevertheless do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rather[6] rejoice because your names are written in heaven."

Did Jesus see it happening? or did He see a future event? I feel He saw it as it happening. satan may be free to attack us and deceive us but i do not think he still has access to the throne room of heaven.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
