The following is an opinion piece and describes what is happening in the UK. However, with the new "passport regulations" in America and all of the EU countries due to the current paranoia about "terrorism", I am wondering whether or not we are entering a "brave new world" where everyone is having their right to travel severely curbed. Airports and even aerodromes are becoming very scary places even for travellers who intend to travel internally within their country.

"THE government is coming to Reading to snoop into your personal life by opening one of its "Big Brother" interrogation centres in the heart of the town.

The Home Office will set up an "interview and administration" centre - one of 69 across Britain - in the town centre's Kings Reach building in King's Road early next year.

Government private finance initiative (PFI) contractor Mapeley Abi Provider Ltd applied for planning permission to use the first floor of the building for 10-20 minute interviews for people applying for a first passport.

But civil liberties groups fear the Big Brother office is the thin end of the wedge, with the centres becoming a treasure trove for criminal gangs eager to get their hands on criminal data to sell to a host of salivating marketing men.

Ian Darling, contact for the Reading branch of a national anti-ID card organ-isation, No2ID,said: "While the office on King's Road may initially be for handling first-time passport applications,it is intended for a far more sinister purpose".

It seems kind of scary, but privacy is really an illusion even now and so is freedom, sadly. The only freedom we seem to have is the freedom granted us by our respective governments. Yet at the same time, it's hard to believe that the business world, the tourism industry and the world of commerce in general would stand for this. And in the end, money and profit speaks louder than any politician.

Huxely was correct - the more we elevate science, human ingenuity, and subsequently devalue man, the more we give up our freedoms. That is all this is, technology and science being given disproportionate roles in life, which therefore leads to the destruction of freedoms.
