Wonderful post! Has me thinking thumbing through the Bible and praying! :whistling:

My church has communion based on a couple of things> One when the denomination calls for it. Two on World Wide Communion Day and other occasions such as Easter, Christmas, etc. And last but not least when my Pastor is led to by the Holy Spirit out side of the other times. (is three a couple lol sorry).

My former church (the one i attended before i was born again) held it the first Sunday of every month as well. Tho for me at the time it was just a ritual.

I too have recently been caught in the scriptures about how to take it and also how to give offerings (preparation of the heart).

From what i have read in scripture so far seems like the churches were doing it often but not in the right spirit. Personally i am thinking once a day at least would be good.

I also look forward to other's reply. Loved this post thanks again,

Love your sister in Christ,

Rebekah David

I'm curious. How often does your church hold a Communion service?......weekly......monthly.......yearly....????

If you can, please explain how that was decided and by whom. Give the Scriptural basis if possible.

Thanks,

Fiosh

:D

Hi Fiosh,

The home Church where I raised my family always have Communion on the first Sunday of every month. I appreciate that I knew when it would be so much. I was involved in another church here, also, closer to where I live for some time. However they discontinued to have Communion at a set time and seemed to me to miss it too much.

I would like Communion more often and always planned, because then I can properly come to it with prayers or fasting beforehand a better frame of mind and more prayers warm from the heart concerning The Lords Communion, and one cannnot do this is they are random. I prefer some order there for sure.

God Bless

We have Communion in church on the third Sunday.

However, we aren't forbidden to partake of Communion in our own homes, as a family, and I know many families from our fellowship who do just that.

On wednesdays at 5:30, on Sundays 7:00, 8:45, 11:00, 5:30 and on other special days like Mauundy Thursday, Christmas etc.

The Holy Eucharist is the sacrament commanded by Christ for the continual remembrance of his life, death, and resurrection, until his coming again.

Because the Eucharist, the Church's sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving, is the way by which the sacrifice of Christ is made present, and in which he unites us to his one offering of himself it is considered a sacrifice.

The outward and visible sign in the Eucharist is bread and wine, given and recieved according to Christ's command.

The inward and spiritual grace is the Body and Blood of Christ given to his people, and received by faith.

It is required that we should examine our lives, repent of our sins, and be in love and charity with all people before we partake of the Holy Eucharist.

Transubstantiation in the Supper of the Lord cannot be proven by Holy Writ but is repugnant to the plain words of Scripture, overthroweth the nature of the sacrament and has given occasion to many superstitions.

We do it on the third Sunday of every month, I believe. And I think the General Assembly decided that, however many years ago.

Thanks, "Sparky"! :41:

If you ever get the chance, would you ask the pastor why it's offered once a month?

Peace,

Fiosh

Hey, Fiosh, I forgot about that :41:

I just happen to have a Book of Order (the governing document for Presbyterians) and it says (Summary to follow, for the lazy :41:):

W-2.4009: The Lord’s Supper is to be observed on the Lord’s Day, in the regular place of worship, and in a manner suitable to the particular occasion and local congregation. It is appropriate to celebrate the Lord’s Supper as often as each Lord’s Day. It is to be celebrated regularly and frequently enough to be recognized as integral to the Service for the Lord’s Day.

and

The session is responsible for authorizing all observances of the Lord’s Supper in the life of a particular church and shall

ensure regular and frequent celebration of the Sacrament, in no case less than quarterly. Any other governing body of the church, also, may appoint times for the celebration of the Lord’s Supper during their meetings. A governing body may also authorize the celebration of the Sacrament in connection with the public worship of some gathering of believers which is under its jurisdiction or in institutions where it has a missional witness or authorized ministry. A governing body may delegate the authority to approve the celebration of the Lord’s Supper to an appropriate overseeing body in the institutions for which it has responsibility.

SUMMARY

Basically, teh Lords Supper can be served as often as every week, but at least once every 3 months or so. The session (which is the governing body within each church) sets how often it is observed, not the pastor. FYI, as I understand it, the pastor has very little power in the Presbyterian Church

so, there ya go :D

-edit-It should go without saying that Communion is served on special occasions, such as baptisms, christmas, easter etc. Also, we have World Communion once a year in which, to my understanding, churches all around the world have communion on the same day, in which we symbolically participate in communion with thousands of other believers. For this, we have different wines and breads from all over the world, which is neat.

Hi CSL:

I don't want to debate Transubstantiation in this thread. (though I'd be glad to if you'd like to start another thread)

It simply puzzles me that there is such a wide variation among denoms----and even within a denom---regarding how often Communion is offered.

Thank you for that beautiful description. :th_praying: I certainly agree with the spirit of it, though is doesn't completely describe my belief.

Do you have any idea why your church celebrates the Eucharist at every service? i.e. on what Scripture is it based?

Peace,

Fiosh

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
