Are you talking about in Acts 4? Because those were the tongues of men, not tongues of angels, requiring no translation

Edit: Whoops...I mean Acts 2

Prayer in tongues requires no translation either. It is worship. It is prayer--vertical. It is a gift of grace to be used at any time. The gift the upper room people received was the ministry gift...sometimes it is in an earthly language, speaking to those who need to hear from God--horizontal.

The point is, that the Holy Spirit is not limited because there are a few hundred of His own in one place.

In that case we are told:

"If there is no interpreter, the speaker should keep quiet in the church and speak to himself and God." 1 Cor. 14:28

because:

"So if the whole church comes together and everyone speaks in tongues, and some who do not understand or some unbelievers come in, will they not say that you are out of your mind?" (v. 23)

and

"For God is not a God of disorder but of peace. " (v.33)

Prayer does not need to be translated. We pray in tongues, in the Spirit...not prophesy with messages from God.

The Floating-Axe sinks slightly....it is ALWAYS earthly, known, understood, national dialects in Holy Writ, never "divine mumbo-jumbo" such as unintelligible "Ki ladia sphona, sa nania shuh ka lana moba deseen vi ladia so boda shan za she lana kadia nonmalia." Not once! Jehovah God CLEAR UNDERSTANDS your prayers in distinct English language, your En Francais, your Espanol, your Arabic (Allahu akbar!), your Hebrew (from Aleph to Tau), your Greek (from Alpha to Omega) and the Holy Spirit has promised to assist us when we pray. So why your gobbledygook?!

No, Arthur. Only YOU call it mumbo-jumbo , may God forgive you. For you to type what you think is a heavenly language is so disrespectful and absurd, that I cannot hear you in this. You know not of what you speak, sadly.

I pray that God gets a good hold of you--by the lapels--and shows you His truth in the matter.

Blessings in Jesus...

Thanx. I read your verbosity unilimited but still do not find anything EVEN APPROACHING your "divine mumbo-jumbo" such as "Vi ladia sphona sa nania shuh ka lana moba deseen za she lava kadia" on into the UNINTELLIGIBLE & purely made-up night of charismatic experience. Where in all Acts, 1 Corinthians, 2 Corinthians, Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, et al, may one locate your babble? Did Moses employ it? Did Stephen? Did our Lord Jesus? Did the various nations gathered at Pentecost? Did Dwight Luman Moody? Did Charles Haddon Spurgeon? Does Billy Graham? Does Charles Stanley? John MacArthur? And only SINCE 1901 in Azusa Pentecostal Assembly....LOUD SILENCE thru all the centuries! And you appear not addled at all. Hmm. Gotta go now. I'm meeting a lady friend & her companion at StarBucks. I will pay. Koinonia is sweet.

Have A Blessed & Christ-Honoring New Year on January 1 and all year long!

Have never spoken in tongues because it is a gift, nothing more and nothing less. It's also the least useful of all the gifts...according to Paul. I do have the Holy Spirit though.

One "insults" Jesus because one doesn't agree with you?! Quite to the contrary, F.A., I do indeed PRAISE & WORSHIP the Lord Jesus Christ, the Righteous One and only Savior! He is the veritable Theme of my song and the Joy of all living. Have a wonderful & Christ-blessed New Year's!

Good morning asap, just out of bed again, well about an hour ago, live in a different time zoneto you, but in a better frame of mind. When you are reaching your mid 80s I suppose you're entitled to have a bad hair day, but to your reply.

Good Morning eric,

Sorry about your mood.

I had to go back and read to refresh my memory but I believe I was the only one in this thread that used the word annointed when refering to a pastor that I had the blessing to learn from for a short time. He never claimed to be annointed, he is actually a very humble servant, continuously giving his time in the community(ie. cutting firewood, praying for the sick, helping the widows in the area with home repairs),trusts the Lord for his provision, preachs at the Res., a mens recovery center and at a non-denominational church. I claimed that he was annointed.

Please add your 2 cents, I may not be young in years, lost in the world for 41 years before Christ, but I am young in Christ. I amuse that you are not. I came to this site for others views on the christian walk. What distresses me is the way people hit and run here. It reminds me of the saying that christians eat their own young.

Blanket generalized statements about others being wrong without actually addressing what you percieve as how they are wrong just baffles me.

That is the reason I am grateful that the Lord released me from the 1st church I was a member of for 3 years, the fact that it was an attack when you were considered wrong, but no actual basis for the correction. "Just the facts m'am"

Proverbs 27:17 (KJV)

17 Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend.

Do you think it would be acceptable to use this proverb as on example?

With Sisterly Love,

Amanda

No I was not referring to you, as in you particularly, but anyone who claims to be annointed, especially the likes of some TBN preachers, which of course has nought to do with this thread.

So briefly, although I am not a staunch calvanist, I believe your name goes in the book of life at your conception as do any gifts that you granted by grace, after your salvation.

IMO you can't learn gifts. A gift is a gift. you don't ask for gifts, you merely receive them by grace through faith. I made my committment to the Lord twenty years ago and on several occasions tried speaking in tongues and it sounded riculous to me so I told the Lord if I didn't know what I was talking about, how was He to know and if He didn't mind I would stick to the tongue I was born with.

Luke said Christ came to, quote..... bring good news to the poor, to proclaim release to the captives and to recover the sight to the blind and to give release to the oppressed and to declare the acceptable year fo the Lord.........or words to that affect. He never said anything about curing arthiritis or cancer, although through, Him are all things possible. so if God chooses me as a vessel at some time to pray for some healing or another for someone and he is healed, that does't mean to me, anyway, that I have the gift of healing.

Like you said, "just the facts, m'am."

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
