They promote things, like evolution

I learned evolution in school, and now I am able to refute it as a Christian.

Sounds like a wonderful opportunity for evangelism, in my book.

No, I am a product of the public school system.

Proud product of the Los Angeles Unified School District, over here.

Steve

I am a survivor of the public school system.

By the way Iryssa, I have no problem with private Christian schools. I did not mean to give that impression. I just personally prefer the home school alternative. Also, I know it is not the public school's job to teach Christianity. My problem is not what they don't teach, but what they do teach. They promote things, like evolution, and liberal ideals through social studies, that I dissaprove of. It is possible that children with proper parenting can survive the bad influences of the schools, but not all will. I remember one time having someone come into one of my classes to tell us how homosexuality was ok, and just an alternate lifestyle. In the same class, I saw one of them "come out of the closet," as he felt more accepted. I just don't like the agenda the public schools have, outside of simply educating.

I don't have a problem with private Christian schools either, and I didn't imply that you did...There are MANY situations, however where private Christian schools aren't any more of an option than homeschooling.

I made it through the teachings about evolution and sexual activity in the Public school system just fine. What has to happen is that those teachings need to be refuted in the home at the end of the day. This isn't as hard as it sounds, especially for kids who are "impressionable" as you say...they generally trust their parents above all their public school teachers....if they don't, they most likely have problems at home that no amount of homeschooling or private Christian education can solve.

The only agenda a properly governed public school should have is EDUCATION. I don't know about where you are (and that is one of those "situations" I've spoken of that needs to be taken into consideration by the parents...the situation you may be facing is not the same for parents across the board), but where I'm from, public schools still make this their mandate.

I just want to clear one thing up here: Kids CAN reach their friends for Jesus. I don't give a flying bird whether they do it at a public school, their local rec hockey team, their homeschool play group, or whathaveyou.

I just know that God CAN and DOES speak through the mouths of babes. I have seen it happen. My cousins (between the ages of 7 and 10) have been witnessing in their own precious way to a child of non-Christian parents. He's been asking questions and they've been telling him everything they've been learning in Sunday School and from their parents.

Christian parents who send their kids off to public school aren't just doing it on a whim, or pointing a gun at their heads and saying "God, stop the bullet!" They are still talking to their kids about Jesus, paying attention to their physical, spiritual, and mental health, ACTIVELY parenting them (which is important in ANY schooling situation, homeschool, public, or private school...I've seen just as many homeschool parents as public school parents neglect active parenting when they're not doing school stuff), preparing them for what the outside will throw at them.

Any kid with healthy socialization is going to face the infuence of the outside world. The idea is to PREAPARE and STRENGTHEN them to stand up against it, because unless you go off and live in a small utopian colony (unlikely), they're going to face it at some point, no matter WHAT you do.

It's not the school system's JOB to teach the kids about Christ...it's the duty of their parents and the Christian community around them. That's why I think that public school CAN work for MANY Christian kids. Hey, I did it, and I think I turned out to be a pretty stable person and steady Christian. It is not for ALL situations, though, just like homeschooling is not appropriate (or even possible!) for ALL families in today's world.

And frankly, I think that anyone who says or implies that a Christian parent is failing in their duties by sending their kids to public school is insulting my parents, and I don't take kindly to that. I admire homeschool parents, I really do, because I don't think I could ever manage it (my favourite aunt is a homeschool parent, and I marvel at how she gets it all done)...but there are other situations out there, and those can work too..I know they can, because they have worked in the lives of my brother and me, as well as my cousins and close friends.

I am a 6 day creationist. I love science. I choose to send my child to a private christian school because I am blessed enough to be able to afford it. Some can't. These kids who attend public school need to be prayed for so that they can be protected as they walk among the enemy. Pray for our kids, our future.

Carrie i kinda chopped your post...but i think the heart of your message should be loked at. Regardless of who or what the government chooses is "best" for our children (I am also a 6 day creationist, btw) the point is our children need to be prayed for. The battle is intense for them ad in public schools is beyond belief. Let's keep praying and asking God to work inspite of our "educators and school systems."

I find nothing wrong with mainstream school. I survived. From the sounds of it tho some of us I remember a few kids that were homeschooled but completely disregarded their parents wishes and were more or less robots to them. I came through the public school system here and I turned out fine. Granted yes I made a few mistakes but who doesn't in a life. God has forgiven me of that. It's really completely up to the parents to decide what is best for the kids. I've seen a 19 yr old holding hands witha 16yr old and think that it was fine and it was the assosicate pastor's son who was the younger. Some things are up to those indiviuals as to what to do with their lives. Kids will get older and free will take hold. Parents can't stop it they can only try and give them the ability to make good rightous Godly decisions. And that is tough speaking from the background that my parents came from and I came from. So I simply agree to disagree with the OP. I respect those that have answered and understand now that I've gotten older how hard it is to not try and screw up a young person's life. I know I'm not ready to have kids and I'm 21. But when I am a little more prepared I understand that no matter what I say or do the older the kids get it is their decision. Sorry to have sidetracked the thread but this is just my opinion and sorry if it sounds like a ranting.

That means God created everything in 6 24 hour days and on the 7th day He rested. The creation portion was done the first 6 days.

How can a day be defined as 24 hours, before the creation of the sun? And why does it matter?

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • George Whitten, the visionary behind Worthy Ministries and Worthy News, explores the timing of the Simchat Torah War in Israel. Is this a water-breaking moment? Does the timing of the conflict on October 7 with Hamas signify something more significant on the horizon?

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
