Ephisians 4:5 "One Lord, one faith, one baptism;"

If you are baptized in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Then you are baptized regardless of which denomination baptized you. You cannot be re-baptized.

With all due respect, there are denominations that do require rebaptism for backsliding...among them some Church of Christ, Baptist, and Pentecostal churches.

I do agree with you though that only one baptism is necessary, however, some denominations do not recognize the baptism of other denominations. For example, my wife was forced to be rebaptized when she changed from Church of Christ to Baptist, because the Baptist church involved does not recognize the baptism of the Chruch of Christ.

It is a lot of hogwash, in my opinion..but sadly these divisions do exist among denominations.

Hi Sierra21,

Please find an excerpt from a piece on "What the Bible Says about Baptism" below. I did a series of Bible studies last year and found this piece very informative.

If you were sprinkled as a child or christened, you have not been scripturally baptized. If you were immersed as an adult but had no intention of following Christ, you were not scripturally baptized. If you were sprinkled and have followed Christ since that time, you have not been scripturally baptized. If you were immersed and became a Christian later, you have not been scripturally baptized. Does that mean that Christ does not accept you or loves you less? Absolutely not. Does it mean that you are not saved if you haven't been baptized? No. It means that as a believer, you need to be obedient and be scripturally baptized.

If you'd like you can read the entire article here: http://www.intouch.org/myintouch/exploring...ism_129441.html

Blessings.

I always wanted ask this....We read the first instance of water baptism by John the Baptist....If Jesus was baptised by John, then who baptised John? When was he baptised? Is there a possibility that someone else must have started it, which is not recorded in the bible? And why was Jesus baptised so late in his life?

Mainstream churches follow infant baptism, and once the child grows up he affirms the same vows taken by his parents at the time of his "First communion"? why is this considered not right? As a parent I wud like my son to be a Christian as early as he can in his life...So why is it wrong if i arrange to get him a baptised as a child?

Historically, not just in Judaism and Christianity later, baptism was a public alignment with a particular belief. It was an evidence of a change of thinking or in accepting Christ as Savior after Christ's ascension.

I suppose the definition of "mainstream churches" is what i have difficulty with related to your post. Most mainstream Evangelical Churches do not accept infant baptism. There is no affirmation involved related to a first communion. The communion is a symbolic ordinanace of the church to remember that it was Christ's flesh and blood that was sacrificed for the pardon of our sins.

To introduce your children to the Lord, they must understand the concept of sin, punishment, repentance, and pardon. Jesus Christ died so that we might be pardoned and when the child understands that and wants Jesus in their heart they can be saved and only then shoul bpatism and or communion be considered.

I'll go along with that, bro. :whistling:

I couldn't agree more.

In my case, I was sprinkled as a newborn. Later, I learned that the Bible requires faith and repentance as prerequisites for baptism. So I got immersed as an adult.

Once a person is saved the only requirement is and should be repentance (recognizing the sin, asking God for forgiveness, and walking away from the sin).

You got saved without repenting?

1- If Jesus was baptised by John, then who baptised John?

2- Is there a possibility that someone else must have started it, which is not recorded in the bible?

3- And why was Jesus baptised so late in his life?

4- once the child grows up he affirms the same vows taken by his parents at the time of his "First communion"?

5- So why is it wrong if i arrange to get him a baptised as a child?

1- Doesn't matter. He was commissioned by God to do it,

2- If you look at history, baptism is not unique to judaism or christianity. Lot of religions have purification rites with water.

3- Because that was the norm for John's baptism. They had to repent and confess their sins.

4- I think you mean "confirmation".

5- Because the Bible requires personal faith and repentance before baptism.

3- And why was Jesus baptised so late in his life?

Jesus was baptized at age 30 because that was when His public ministry commenced. He received approval by the Father, His anointing and empowerment by God at that time. Then He went out and was buffeted by Satan for 40 days.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
