Divorce, Introductions

Hello everyone,

I am Sherman Nobles and several years ago I came across some information that revolutionized my understanding of Jesus' statements concerning divorce. I started to write an article, but as I researched and wrote on the correct understanding and interpretation of Mt.19.9, I soon found the traditional doctrine of marriage, divorce, and remarriage (MDR) to be a complex web of misinterpretations of scripture, false assumptions, and errant principles. Thus I wrote a book on the subject entitled, "God Is A Divorce' Too! A Message of Hope, Healing, and Forgiveness".

The doctrine of MDR is a mammoth, elephant-sized discussion, far larger than can be dealt with in an article, or even a series of articles. Thus, I propose that we eat this elephant one bite at a time. To start with, let me define what I mean by the traditional doctrine.

The traditional doctrine of MDR basically states that Jesus disagreed with Moses, and intended to repudiate (reject as invalid) the bill of divorce, making marriage indissoluble. Some ministers amend this to say except for adultery or abandonment by an unbelieving spouse (the Pauline privilege). Marriage came to be considered a sacrament, under ecclesial authority, and indissoluble

I am along for the ride - as it happens I have been looking at this topic too. I like your approach and particularly the passage of Scripture 1 Cor. 7 which as it it happens I was thinking about (believe it) only this morning.

Butero don't fear me but rather 'fear' what Sherman is going to teach you.

He didn't give any false Biblical doctrine concerning divorce. That which is sound here regarding divorce he shall give.

A number of years ago my wife and I, having been rescued by the Lord from a divorce, started a "DivorceCare" group (http://www.divorcecare.com) in our church as so many of those who were divorced were looked down upon and left out. What a wakeup call! The pain, the hurt, the suffering, many in the Body of Christ have been put through because of man made rules and man's interpretation of the LAW and scripture.

I expect to add more to this discussion but for now - should we stone those who have been divorced or ask those who are withour sin to cast the first stone? Is there any value in "conviction" vs "condemnation"? I wonder why so many are walking out the doors of our churches today??????
