That is not Socialism! Socialism is a political movement based on coercion.

True, Acts is not describing a political system. Note that all governments that tax their populace use coercion. This is not a unique trait of socialism. Socialism is no more anti-Christian than many other forms of government.

"Imagine being in a restaurant with an old friend and he blurts out, "I hate my wife."

And you kind of chuckel to yourself cause he says that every time you are together, they've been married 35 years, he has two daughters with her, they are just like her he loves his daughters. You know your friend does not hate his wife.

Then you look out the window and you spot his wife being beaten up, and you grab your friend by the shirt coller and say "Come on, lets go. Let's go help her!" and he says. "Nah, I'm sure she deserves it!" ;)

That's what 9/11 was to me. I would hear my friends say how evil, and horrible and racist, and oppressive America is and I would laugh and say they really don't hate America, they are just saying that. And then on 9/11 we were beaten up and I grabbed my liberal friends and said, "Come on, lets go, lets help her, lets help America!" and they said, "Nah, she deserves it!" And it was then that I realized that they really do hate America."

Yeah, maybe that means I'm not a modern liberal according to him? ;)

I consider myself much more liberal than conservative, but I supported our anti-terrorist action in Afghanistan.

I dunno, he brought up a lot of interesting points (yes I listened to the whole thing). He seemed very intelligent, and I found myself agreeing to a few of his ideas, but there were many extreme examples and straw men he set up. I respect his presentation, but I don't agree with many of his assumptions.

EDIT: I'm curious though. Aren't youtube videos banned from this site? I thought I remembered a few arguements about youtube, and the fact that while certain movies may be wholesome, youtube itself can lead to other more negative things. This is a good example of a educational and informative youtube link, I don't advocate removing it, but I just thought I remembered something about that.

Could be. I appreciate you taking the time watch the whole thing, though. As I said at the outset, I absolutely detest the YouTube website. I tried to upload the video to another website, but it was too big; I thought I could link to the other site. If a mod feels the need, delete this thread. However, I felt the content of the speech was important enough to be viewed.

And you are right, I have read your posts for a few weeks and you are not a modern liberal. You are more like the classical liberal of a bygone era. You got the point.

Coercion is never a Christian trait; socialism is coercive. Socialism is as unbiblical as any sin.

In order to eliminate discrimination the "Modern Liberal" has opted to become utterly indiscriminate.

In order to not discriminate we have to intentionally make ourselves stupid. We have to intentionally pretend that we do not know some of the things that we do know.

The problem is, the ability to discriminate, the ability to thoughtfully choose the better of the available options.

Bush is Hitler

Regan is Hitler

Giuliani is Hitler

How is Rudolph Giuliani like Hitler to a thinking person?

In one way

Hitler discirminated against the Jews

Giuliani discriminated against the crack addicted "street walkers" in Times Square.

Hitler discriminated against the Catholics

Giuliani discriminated against the criminal overloards.

Hitler discriminated agains the gypsies

Giuliani discriminated against the terrorists on 9/11 and beyond

See, any form of discrimination is discrimination.

Indiscriminateness of thought does not lead to indiscriminateness of policy.

Arash the Archer out of Iran, is it not, should always remember that ten out of every two people are dyslexic. Socialism? Why time-travel back to the 19th-century? I can rant too, therefore I am.

GOD BLESS THE USA!

Youtube is kosher now? I'll have to keep that in mind...

I think that's a stretch. Don't get me wrong, socialism stinks (for one, there are no incentives to work), but I don't think the Bible has anything to say about it.

As for coercion; every system of government uses coercion. The US is using it right now in Iraq. And we're using it to keep criminals in jail. Etc. But maybe you are using a definition of coercion that I am unfamiliar with.

coerce (n)

1 : to restrain or dominate by force <religion in the past has tried to coerce the irreligious -- W. R. Inge>

2 : to compel to an act or choice <was coerced into agreeing>

3 : to achieve by force or threat <coerce compliance>

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Daniel: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 3

      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this study, I'll be focusing on Daniel and his picture of the resurrection and its connection with Yeshua (Jesus).

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
