Seventh-Day Baptists - What do they believe?

We are considering attending a Passover seder at a Seventh-Day Baptist church this evening and I am trying to find out what they believe. I've searched the Internet, including their homepage and Wikipedia, but the statement of belief is a little vague.

The fact that they use the term "covenant" people, does this mean they are "reformed" and adhere to Calvinism?

One place said that SDB were the same as "other Baptists" except these honored the Sabbath (Seventh Day).

Can anyone shed more light for me please?

I think they are okay.

At one time they were considered a cult, but most people today do not look at them that way. They do however do some things which many people have a hard time with. They follow the Jewish dietary restrictions, in addition to Sabbath observance. For example they do not eat pork or shellfish, most are vegetarians and are really into health. Obviously they don't drink and smoking is considered a sin also. They run Loma Linda in California. They are really into prophesy and some times get sidetracked into the writings of their founder and prophetess called Ellen White. They have distanced themselves from some of her writings, but I find her relatively off base she predicted specific dates for the Return of Christ etc. The ones I know are almost obsessed with their dislike of the Catholic Church, almost always seeing the Catholic Church as ushering in the anti-Christ etc and involved in a series of world wide conspiracies throughout history.

Anyway that is what I know, I am sure many here can add to it. I also think there are some SDA's on the board hopefully they will respond. I consider them brothers and sisters in Christ even though I do disagree with some of the doctrine.

We met on Sundays in the beautiful sanctuary of a Seventh Day Baptist Church here in Denver. They were awfull nice folks. Seemed to be orthodox in their Christian beliefs, they just held Sunday on Saturday!

Apparently it was a split off from the Baptist church over the observance of Sabbath on Sunday instead of Sunday.

I wonder if it matters that much to God to separate His people by such a thing?

Thanks everyone for your replies, they were very helpful! I had read the statement of faith, but it seemed a little vague. However, we did attend the Passover seder and it was really wonderful and right on the money doctrinally. And when we talked with them, they told us they were basically fundamentalist Baptists except they honor the Sabbath command. Personally, we felt we had a lot in common with these folk and we were very glad to share the fellowship and ministry.

I took some time to respond to your post for it could be read on several different layers and mean different things.

First, I guess you mean that honoring the Sabbath as "such a thing" and that you don't see that as an important issue.

Secondly, you seem to think that people holding convictions about their Biblical beliefs is a bad thing.

Thirdly, you seem to be saying that because a group of people wish to stand upon their Biblical beliefs and others have different beliefs and wish to have the freedom to do the same, that this somehow "separates" the Body of Messiah.

Personally, I disagree with all three

1) I believe observing the Sabbath is an important issue and one that is too often forsaken.

2) I believe that when the L-rd convicts you of something and tells you to do it, you'd better do it, whether anyone else agrees or not! As long as the Bible supports it.

3) If there are groups of people that have the same conviction about the Sabbath and wish to gather together and there are groups of people who don't share that conviction and don't wish to join in, they are STILL part of the same Body, just wearing different shoes. No harm, no foul.
