Should A Pastor Step Down

A local Pastor is married with three wonderful boys.

This Pastor has recently admitted openly to his congregation

that he has been having an affair with another woman for the

past two years. He told the congregation that he intends to

divorce his wife and marry this other woman. He also told

the congregation that he doesn't intend to step down as Pastor.

What do you think about him not stepping down as Pastor?

Please, no arguments.

I really need some input on this matter.

I have many friends who were attending this man's church,

and they are devastated.

I don't know how to console them. Please help. Thanks.

Um step down, no doubt. The bible is clear on that issue, and to me, the fact that he is refusing to do so says a lot about his pride and dismissal of this horrible sin. It also makes it seem as though he has no remorse and has not repented, but who am I to know that. Those are my thoughts.

No question. He should step down and the congregation should not accept him as their Pastor.

If you had said that he repented and turned away from the affair, I would have a different answer.

But, he is an unrepentant sinner. His actions make me question whether this man has a healthy "fear of the Lord". Or if he has any faith left at all.

How can he be a shepherd to his flock??

The man is a disgrace and if he doesn't step down, the board needs to let him go ASAP. This is a no-brainer.

It is clear that this man is not only unrepentant of his affair, but is looking to compound his sin by divorcing his wife to be with his adulteress. He is in no spiritual position to lead a church, and if he doesn't step down voluntarily, he should be removed.

I should add that we should all be in prayer for this man. Based on his attitude, he has clearly done damage to his soul... we need to pray for God to break his heart and cut down his pride.

Invite the Pastor to preach on these verses and see how his heart changes regarding the matter.

1Ti 3:1 This is a true saying, If a man desire the office of a bishop, he desireth a good work.

Ask him gently how he can reconcile these verses with his current situation.
