Perhaps, there is a misunderstanding about the difference between the original manuscripts and translations. There are hundreds of translations. In the English language alone there are upwards of 120 different translations.

The Chicago Statement on Inerrency did a good job of clarifying this. You can probably google one online.

We offer this Statement in a spirit, not of contention, but of humility and love, which we propose by God's grace to maintain in any future dialogue arising out of what we have said. We gladly acknowledge that many who deny the inerrancy of Scripture do not display the consequences of this denial in the rest of their belief and behavior, and we are conscious that we who confess this doctrine often deny it in life by failing to bring our thoughts and deeds, our traditions and habits, into true subjection to the divine Word.

Yes, I've appreciated him also. Heard him speak once or twice many many years ago. He get's deep. Loved it. :whistling:

So then...Jesus will marry a literal city. That cannot be true. The New Jerusalem is the church.

Anyway, I just wanted to get that little bit in. I don't want to detract from the purpose of this thread at all. Let's leave it.

The "church" will inhabit the New Jerusalem.

Description of the city are in Rev and in Isaiah.

Hi None. Since I haven't been following your conversation on this, I've no idea what you are talking about.

There are a lot of difficult things in Scripture to understand. While for the most part most translations are pretty close to right on to the original manuscripts in Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek, there are bits here and there that theologians travail over translating.

But my guess is that you are not having trouble with translations but some sections of historical accounts. What in particular are you having trouble with.

How does the Chicago statement validate your belief though? The Chicago statement states that Scripture is inspired and contains within it no errors.

I suppose you're refering to when I said:

I was speaking of these verses:

Psalm 137:8-9

8)O Daughter of Babylon, doomed to destruction,

happy is he who repays you

for what you have done to us-

9)he who seizes your infants

and dashes them against the rocks.

Ezekiel 18:23

23)Do I take any pleasure in the death of the wicked? declares the Sovereign LORD.

Rather, am I not pleased when they turn from their ways and live?

They both assume to know exactly how God feels about killing.

David says, "happy is He..."

whereas Ezekiel says,"Do I take any pleasure in the death of the wicked?"

Clearly a contradicting of emotions in how God feels about death, whether innocent children or wicked men.

The Chicago statement doesn't "validate" my belief, AK, it simply clarified the issues of personalities affecting scriptures.

So your argument is since God clearly does not take enjoyment in the death of the wicked, that Noah's Ark and etc. must have never occured?

Look at it this way, I dont take any enjoyment in disciplining my kids. But does this mean I do not discipline them? Of course not!

      I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

      For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

      2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices. 

      So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

      Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end. 
      Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house. 

      Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

      As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

      Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
      Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

      So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
