Mars water confirmed

As for the visual imagery and it's representation that water existed, it seems from the release,  that it could be wind or water.  I know we have rock formations here that have been altered due to high winds and sand being blown across them.  It could be possible the formations are from cosmic dust being blown across the martian surface from solar winds.

But this press release is sharing the conclusion based on the analysis of the chemical composition of the rock.

Chemically, the rock contains a very high amount of sulfur. The chemical form of this sulfur is the sulfate which is more commonly known as epson salt. It forms from either water percolating through the rock and transforming it or from salty water evaporating and the crystals left behind solidifying (imagine the Dead Sea drying up - it would be like that).

So, unless you can find another way such sulfates are formed (as in, without water), there is not a whole lot you can make an anti-claim with, like it or not. That is just the way science is. Claims need some substantiation to them that is verifiable.

Being aware of your desire to be a science teacher from your previous posts, I can see your excitement and eagerness to embrace a new scientific discovery.

But.....as you stated, claims need substantiation that is verifiable. The data released has not been placed under scrutiny as of yet, by other scientist to determine the validity of the test data or to confirm the results obtained. Anyone who accepts new data on the basis and assumption that it is correct because a " scientist" said so, should take a serious look at some of the other scientific discoveries that were later scrutinized and found to be in error. One that comes to mind is the press release that cold fusion had been obtained, and then later debunked by other scientist attempting to replicate or confirm the results. So basically being a " scientist" does not mean that you are automatically correct.

My previous post was a warning to not be hasty to accept un-scrutinized test data and accept it as fact. I still hold to that, and hope that others also will not view science as infallible. History has shown us that science changes and has at times been proven to be in error.

Even so,

Assuming the test data is valid, that sulfur and salts were discovered in rocks on the martian soil. That fact alone does not confirm that water was on the planet at any given time. There are other avenues that need to be explored before a definitive conclusion can be obtained. Meteoric rock could account for any amount of surface rock discovered and tested. That fact alone opens up possibilities as to other origins for the sample elements discovered. Possibly even originating from our own planet at some point in the past.

As for the visual observations, They could be attributed to other sources than water. Again, solarwinds and cosmic dust are a viable possibility. Or even molten volcanic flow.

I am not attempting to discredit science, but to warn that science should not be assumed to be correct just because a " scientist " say's so. Faith in the abilities of a man to be infallible and correct in his understanding can lead to serious and grave error.

Im not sure what curriculum is necessary to become a science teacher, relaying science as it is understood to students, but Im sure it pales in comparison to a research scientist with a PHD on the cutting edge of a science. Many tend to take the words of these highly educated scientist as the truth. Placing their faith in the understanding of man, instead of an all knowing God. Many have been led away with evolutionary ideologies and have been led to believe their origins began in the cosmo's in times past, from an as yet undiscovered alien population. Using science as a means of confirming their personal beliefs. Denying their God and being lead astray by a faith in a so -called science. My concern is that these un scrutinized discoveries will be a prelude to additional attacks on the origins of life etc. , when history has shown that science has failed us in its ability to be a substitute for God.

Hopefully as a science teacher you can express to the impressionable that science is not fool proof and without error, and is limited by discovery.
