I have a question.

When people claim to have dreams, how can we tell when some can be taken seriously or no? I have met a lot of people who claim to have the power of prophecy vision/dreams and I would like to know that others say (using also the scriptures from the Bible).

Not all Visions and Dreams are from the LORD. It is a gift and not a true sign of the Holy Spirit in him or her. Remember, the devil also have dreams and vision that may confuse you. If a person claims to have the gift of vision and dreams, they should also get an interpretation to it according to the Word. If it's not in the Bible or contradict ONE word in the bible, then it's not from God.

So Resist

I think the real way to tell is to see if what they're claiming lines up with what's in the Bible, because there isn't anything new. Of course, then there's the problem of people making up dreams based on something they've read there. If it doesn't make any sense at all, I'd dismiss it immediately, or if they make any money in their "ministry" definitely scratch it.

The trouble with trying to align Prophesy, dreams and visions with the bible is that Prophesy, dreams and visions are specific in nature and the Bible is general in nature about what is to happen in the future. An example would be something in the lines of this.

In Matthew 24:7, we read "For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places." This is a general statement where we are to look for these signs. A vision or dream may include something very specific, like; "God gave me a dream. I dreamt about Los Angeles falling into the ocean.", or a vision; "God gave me a vision. I saw Los Angeles falling into the ocean." These are more specific and can not be lined up totally with scripture. this is why we are given gifts by the Holy Spirit and Discerning Spirits are very important in this matter.
