Shalom Tah,

To lie is to tell an untruth. A falsehood. To DECEIVE.

vickilynn, i'm making it personal to provide examples. it's not because i'm making it "about me", it is because there are some circumstances in which i do not believe it is a sin to lie.

nobody seemed to think the story of rahab was good enough.

rahab did not lie. she acted on faith.

we can agree to disagree, but i do not feel like rahab sinned.

why am i pushing so hard? because some people in this thread are so busy trying to be righteous that they overlook God's greatest command... which is to LOVE one another.

i'm not the least bit convicted over the lies i told in those circumstances. not by God, anyway. so again, i bring up what you chastised me for earlier in this thread... these kinds of threads ALWAYS become about self-righteousness. they ALWAYS become about "oh, you're a sinner because you told a lie, but me, i'd NEVER lie".... which of course is a lie in itself, because not one person here is able to say they've never told a lie since accepting Christ, and yet that is how it comes across to others.

i notice nobody has answered the questions i put forth... would anyone here lie to protect their child from being physically beaten? would anyone here lie to prevent themselves from being physically beaten?

that's ok, i don't need an answer. i probably wouldn't believe it anyway. so stone me.

i'd like to see the hands of how many moms on this board would not lie in similar circumstances.

Shalom LadyC,

<raising hand> I would not willfully sin by lying. Period.

<raising hand> Neither would I, especially to my husband.

at what point would you willfully lie to your husband?

let's say instead of your child getting grounded for a month for being a minute late, that one minute would get your child physically abused by your husband.

would you lie to him then to protect your child?

Shalom LadyC,

I would NOT willfully lie to my husband.

If my child was being physically abused I would protect my child by removing them from the harmful situation.

that was posted while i was posting my last one.

and if there was no immediate way of removing your child? you'd lie. i HOPE you'd lie, because i feel it would be a sin NOT to under those circumstances.

Shalom LadyC,

No ma'am. I would trust G-d, pray for protection and remove my child as soon as possible. I believe that G-d wants us to follow His Word, not our own devices.

It would never be a sin to obey G-d.

i correct myself... rahab DID lie. and her lie was an act of faith. it's right there in the Bible. she did not sin in doing so.

i still haven't eaten. i've gone from being silly/goofy to having completely lost my sense of humour. and for that reason, i'm going to step out of this little discussion and let you have the last word, because it's really senseless to be arguing the point anyway. we'll be side by side before God on judgement day, and we'll both have things to account for.

Shalom LadyC,

Chill please. No one chastised you for anything. You're getting all worked up about this and reading things into the posts that just aren't there.

You probably won't get an answer because there is no parent in their right mind that would not go to the ends of the earth to protect their children. There is no parent that would suffer harm to their children and would do anything including lie, to protect their children from harm and even death. Any parent that says otherwise, is worthy to be a parent.

A sin is a sin, is a sin, is a sin. We all do it. The abused woman example is not a very good one, and actually is unfair. The issue there is a person living with abuse, not telling of a lie to protect herself. There is no reason, acceptable to God, for sinning. But that is why he sent Himself, as Christ, to make us acceptable.

it IS a good one, and it WAS fair. especially if, as you state, sin is sin is sin and there is no reason why a sin would be acceptable to God.

the OP's question is, is lying ever the right thing to do... in other words, is lying ever NOT a sin.

and for the record, not all abuse is physical. my children and i were living in an abusive situation, which is exactly why i chose to lie, and which i do not believe was a sin.

So you're telling me that lying is not a sin in certain situations? If you are, show me in the Bible where it says that. I can show you where it says that it is a sin.

I grew up in an abusive situation. And I lied my butt off to try and not get beat. Nonetheless, It was still a sin and would send me to hell without Christ's sacrifice. God never condones or accepts sin.

Shalom LadyC,

Really? Both Bib and myself answered you. I answered you twice. So, you've gotten 3 answers.

... would anyone here lie to protect their child from being physically beaten?

No. I do not believe I would willfully lie as that is sin. I would pray, and ask G-d to provide another way to protect my child, even removing them.

would anyone here lie to prevent themselves from being physically beaten?

Again, no. I do not believe I would choose to willfully sin by lying. I would hope that I would trust G-d and He would provide another way.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Daniel: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 3

      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this study, I'll be focusing on Daniel and his picture of the resurrection and its connection with Yeshua (Jesus).

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
